Wow makes my pc fans go wild

Hey guys,

I just had a new pc built for me, Ryzen 5 3600 along with a 2070 super, mid tower. Everytime I play wow, my pc fans start spinning a lot more than normal and it gets a little loud. I never had this issue with my previous desktop (previous one was a ryzen 3 1300x along with a 1050 ti, mini tower).

Would anyone happen to know why this is happening? It only happens during Wow.

Thanks.

Hey, Glaivepower!

You may want to check what your clocks and temps are doing when the fans kick into high gear, with HWMonitor. Normally when fans go crazy, it is based on temperature thresholds being past in BIOS or overclocking software settings. If anything looks abnormal, that is where you would want to start troubleshooting.

Processor temp: Min - 51 celcius, max-71 celcius
Vid card temp: Min - 50 celcius, max-73 celcius

Does that sound normal?

Glaivpower,

Those temperatures are within tolerance, and depending on your settings they’d be completely normal. It’s possible if you’re at very high settings, especially at a high resolution, that your PC is just running hard to make as much use of your PC as possible to get the best quality you can get. Overall, your fans running hard is not of itself a problem, as long as nothing’s overheating. From those numbers, nothing is overheating. Do you experience any performance issues when the fans spin up, or did you just want to make sure everything was okay?

Oh thank you. I was just wondering coz my older budget build in a mini tower never had the fans go crazy, but my newer build in a mid tower made my fans spin a little faster than usual. No performance issues, just a little bit of noise when the fans start spinning too fast. I guess there’s nothing to worry about since nothing’s overheating.

Glaivepower,

Yep! Just new hardware. It’s likely your new PC has bigger and more powerful fans to help handle the heat for your more powerful hardware. It’s got the extra space after all! Either way, let us know if things end up impacted negatively, but otherwise, hope you enjoy the higher quality!

Around what cpu/gpu temps should I start worrying? Thanks.

80c and up is when your CPU and GPU might have some issue.
The current temp you have right now is normal for any demanding games.

Quick google 2070 Super have loud Fan… maybe it’s normal for the GPU?
Or is the loud fan came from your CPU?

Hey there,

A CPU/GPU may start throttling within 10-20*C of max safe temp depending on the manufacturer. Those are typically listed on the product website such as AMD and Nvidia.

Hope the info helps!
