I’m wayyy more familiar with windows machines, but I got an iMac 27” 5k for work a couple years ago and I’ve been using it for WoW. I can’t seem to get much more than 59-60 FPS with medium graphics settings. It’s a couple years old, but I got it pretty kitted out with upgrades.
My question is for fellow Mac users
What graphics settings do you use to get the most out of WoW/your machine?
Is there anything else inside WoW settings or on the Mac itself to better boost performance? I’m not the most tech savvy so I appreciate any tips or advice
Is it even possible to get a mac that has a discreet graphics card?
Not with apple silicon, but the OP’s couple year old 5k imac will have a discrete GPU
Turning off vsync used to be one possible solution. Dunno now, not on mac any more.
I’m not exactly sure of the specs, but I bought it with all the available upgrades. Solid state HD, best GPU and ram
To this day I’m still learning the interface though. Maybe I’m just a dinosaur, but it doesn’t feel nearly as intuitive as a PC. I was wondering if maybe there was a setting or something throttling performance. Even if I turn the ingame graphics to low I don’t see the 100-200fps I’d see on a windows PC with comparable hardware.
You can confirm specs by clicking the Apple icon at the top left > About This Mac. It will pop up a small window showing basic info like CPU, GPU, RAM.
That iMac screen is a 60hz screen, so even if your FPS is 100+, you’re only seeing 60.
Not sure how old your iMac is, but if its from 2019 or 2020, and you want to stick with an Apple machine, maybe take a look at the Mac Mini or Mac Studio, & get a higher refresh rate monitor.
Are you on the 2017, 2019 or 2020 model?

If you are running the “5K” display at native resolution, then that is a pretty big burden on what is a fairly low-end card at this point. Try adjusting your render-scale in-game to below 100%, so that you are rendering at something close to 1080P or 1440P. As a bonus, using a render scale other than 100% will basically give you some free Anti-aliasing.
I think my render is lower, but I believe I am using 5k. I’ll try lowering it and seeing if that helps
Thank you!
