WoW limitations you think are just lazy programming?

IMHO there are many aspects of this game that just don’t seem to be changed or added (arguably) due to lazy programming… Are there things about WoW that you relate to lazy programming or indifference by the dev team?

For me, a perfect example is the new Daisy pet issues with mounts and Druid forms… The other would be bows, guns, and crossbows not being able to utilize weapon illusions.

I came back to the game recently and did the tutorial island for the first time, at one point you get picked up by a low poly rope fixed magically to your back. it’s really nitpicky but It looks really bad and lazy. Feel like they could actually take the time to polish the presentation a bit.

All of the 24 hour cd toys, and definitely the location locks for most new toys

The new gun sounds.

Alright, guns were loud and some people hated that. Okay. So instead of letting people have the option to make their client produce the sound they enjoy, you ruin it for everyone? My Wolfslayer Sniper Rifle because the Wolfslayer Sniper Stapler. If Karen wanted a more muted gun sound when raiding among hunters, she could have just gone into her settings selected “[ :ballot_box_with_check:] Make Gun Sound Like Swingline Stapler” and moved on with her life while my hunter could continue to make loud PEW PEW noises.

Now I’ve read there’s some way to mess with the sound files to get the old gun sounds back, but I’ve never gotten that to work.

It’s something that should have just been an option, not just taken away from everyone.

Also, what sort of spaghetti code is there that the backpack can’t have it’s inventory increased?

“Can only use that in Draenor”

Guess I’m never using that then.

Night Fae branches, which technically is a cosmetic cloak, hiding your bow or staff.

Mining/herbalism nodes have used the same yellow icon as neutral mobs on the mini-map for years.

I hate to use the term “lazy.” Little things like this could actually be a lot of trouble to correct.

Before I learned about the change, I thought either my speakers were busted or something was wrong with my computer. The gun sound change was massively disappointing.

I don’t know if it’s lazy, but definitely the toy restrictions. I get their thing on profile and stuff, but seriously the toys are fun. A 15 minute duration shouldn’t have a 24 hour cool down or something.

I also think the lack of weather is lazy. It was in the old world, and in fact rain still happens sometimes in certain zones. I think they’re missing a lot of the ambience.

Lastly, and this is a big one for me: I don’t think the Inky Black Potion should replace the skybox. I LOVE the darker effect, it makes the world gorgeous. But there are so many sky boxes out there that are breathtaking, and I would love the ability to darken my game but keep the skybox. The stars used for the potion are fine, but I would love to see Highmountain darker with the current sky box. It’s gorgeous enough even without the improved lighting, but I want so badly to see it like that.

Where does all that water come from in the Shadowlands?

Ardenweald should at least have random rain effects… (to be fair though that place is killer on FPS)

I wouldn’t call it lazy so much as “budget” choices given how things are on templates to reduce development time, maximize metrics, and get things out the door as fast as possible…hic!

have agree with you on this one, i used be entertained by our toy box, now i do not even use it, so many things removed or nerfed or restricted, then there are items that they felt they had to restrict to certain expansions only, like my leather working tents for example, the fun police is real with Blizzard.

When I introduced a friend to the game that was the first thing they noticed and they had a problem with it too! That rope pretty much became a joke to us for a little while.

Minimum level requirements on items you can buy that are incorrect. And thus the item can’t be used by the character who the tooltip said was at the right level.

No minimum level listed if your level is high enough to use it. So there’s no way of telling whether there is a minimum or not.

Ilvl for gear rewards when you’re not in chromie time. It shouldn’t say the item will be ilvl 56 and turns out to be 34. Did they think nobody would ever level or do quests in the world again?

Undeclinable quests that pop up. Seriously, I play so many alts. They don’t all need to get the “Go to the emissary so we can tell you what you need to do to unlock all those allied races all over again on every character”. My vulpera goes in and finds out she can’t roll a vulpera because she hasn’t completed the requirements on that character. Hello? That’s beyond laziness, it’s stupidity.

Those will be with us forever. Do a first run of Firelands on a character that has never run it before? Undeclinable quest!

Upgrade a garrison to level 3? Undeclinable quest!

They don’t really want people going back to old content to do pointless old quests instead of new content. You could get so bored doing garrison campaign stuff you might even be one of those who leaves again over it.

“You are in combat.”

“You cannot logout right now.”

“You are busy and cannot use the taxi service.”

There is no check to see if any of these are actually true.

The lack of breadcrumb questlines and the huge amount of WQs. Total laziness on the part of the devs.

“You must be standing to do that”.

But it’s something you don’t have to be standing to do.

“You are in shapeshift form”.

If someone can start this while mounted and get knocked out off their mount, then a druid in shapeshift form should be able to start it also, and get knocked out of shapeshift form automatically when starting that vehicle quest.

I am convinced this minor inconvenience is maliciously coded just so druid players don’t think they have it too good.

… even though, overall, they do.
