Wow, it's for veterans, not babies

I think all WoW players are over 30 years old! They’ve been through everything! And every time I see more infantilism, where is the blood and epic battles!! When Diablo 4 came out, all the millions that came out at its opening were WoW players looking for an improvement, who then came back when they found out about its horrible season system! I don’t know what the hell is going on with the designers?

I would like you to directly search for the designer of Warlord of Draenor and Legion!! and guide the game again to that concept of battles and wars! I want to see Ilidan and Malfuriom fighting together against the Legion!! Thrall beast mode! Will it arrive at some point!?

I thought it was going somewhere… demanding mature writing? Nope. Wanting to see more adult themes? Nuh uh. Maybe more nuance and shades of gray? NAH.

Just orc smash.

I will say, credit where credit is due (and unlike WoW), Diablo IV recaptured the tone of that IP masterfully regardless of what you think of the gameplay.

I would definitely welcome that happening with WoW.

Their “style” changed and they haven’t written anything that I really care for since maybe Legion to the BfA cinematic.

I long for the days of Warcraft doing cool stuff.

I hate how good the BFA cinematic was. Expectations vs. reality and all that.

the thing about that Cinematic is that is framed Sylvanas as a Respected Leader motivating her troops in a desperate battle for their collective survival against an Army of Humans and their vassals that wants them all dead.

and then when you get ingame, She is just a mustache-twirly cartoon villain who commits a genocide because reasons and then abandons the Horde for what turned out to be REALLY REALLY STUPID reasons.

the difference in tone and presentation in that Cinematic vs what we actually got in the game is staggering.

While I see what you mean about the designer, some of the devs behind those WoD and Legion days were part of the Cosby Suite crew. Do you really want THEM back?

Yes, the tone and setting were fantastic! The gameplay left a lot to be desired.

Ah OP, this is the story forums. Where we discuss the story, lore, characters, speculation of future events etc. General discussion is over here https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/c/community/general-discussion/171

I’m under the age of 30 and I love this game and it’s story. I’ve read several WoW books and comics, those are the best. I’ve been playing WoW since when I was in kindergarten and I enjoyed playing druids even still to this day.

This place here on the forums is to discuss story and lore of the game.

A friend of mine has been replaying bfa and its almost funny how the bfa horde campaign is tonally, every character is like “the alliance has gone too far, the ends justify the means, we must destroy the alliance to live safely in this world” and then thats all dropped cause sylvanas hurt a proudmoore.

More like Sylvanas tried to brainwash and torture a Proudmoore into being her slave (and murder his relatives). Though that was a crazy tonal shift (almost as crazy as those Sylvanas fans still thinking she did nothing wrong at that point).

The problem with morality in WoW then was the writers kept flip-flopping it based on the flavor of the month or their own personal tastes - which makes sense given what the lawsuit revealed about those devs.

Sylvanas’ voiceover narration in the beginning of that Cinematic is especially egregious.

…and we have forgotten what makes us strong.

The tone suggests she’s lamenting that it came to be like this, that she’s disappointed that after fighting side-by-side with Varian on the broken shore, she’s having to stare down his son marching just outside her own walls.

Metzen worked on the BFA trailer before he took his little sabbatical. I’m told he was shocked after being told the actual plot of Battle for Azeroth. He and the Cinematic team put all that effort into that “It doesn’t have to be this way” opening, only for it to be revealed as a complete lie to the fanbase. A complete lie.

Imagine the Cinematic introducing the War Within is Xal’atath sorrowfully monologuing about how

“…this city remains so rich with beauty and majesty. Dalaran has stood against the evils of this world time and time again, why must they always pay the ultimate price?”

And then you boot up the expansion and she implodes the city in the opening act.

Metzen had little involvement in the creative process from WoD to BfA.

The directors of WoD were Tom Chilton and Alex Afrasiabi.

The directors of Legion were Tom Chilton, Ion Hazzikostas and Alex Afrasiabi.

The directors of BfA were Chris Robinson, Ion Hazzikostas and Alex Afrasiabi.

Yeah. No one drew the line at blighting Horde troops and raising them into undeath. But JAINA’S BROTHER? clutches pearls

I think it also served to remind players just how Blizzard writes the Horde. It showed them how it could be written and that contrasted with what they actually do.
