Really no MMO’s are. We’ve already seen the “Hardcore MMO” get tried, and it died in a month. Why is blizzard so content with sharing the grave of wildstar? You can’t just make content for the top 1% of players. Thats not your average playerbase. You should be looking for 50% clear rates for most of your content. FF is huge because lets be honest, its not trying to set up its players for failure and understands that the people who spend the most money on the game. Have jobs and lives.
Your average player isn’t Asmongold or any other youtuber/twitch channel.

I thought only high keys above 20 and Mythic progression were for the top 1%?

Designers appear to be trying to prove that everybody else is doing it wrong, that if only they had refused to “cave” in the face of falling player numbers those changes that were rejected by the playerbase would have made the game more successful. That players should feel no progression in any part of the game, and should play the game for love of the game only and in awe of its perfection of design, expecting no rewards and not being disappointed when they get none.

Pretty sure only 10% if that of the playerbase has KSM. If you hit 1600cr in any form of PVP you’re already the top 20% of players for S1, prolly higher for S2 since that season is dead AF.

wow has given its best gear to its best players for 17 years. if you want a game where everyone gets the same character power and all content is described in terms of its grindiness and not its difficulty, play warframe.

Okay, so keys 15 and higher and Mythic raiding are for the top small percentage. What other content?

Actually, “success” in PvP now is simply a matter of how much cash you earn doing carries. Everything else can be bought.

If you can’t do the mage tower challenge its usually a major problem with your rotation or gameplay. I’ve spectated quite a few people trying it. Not sure if expecting people to know how to do your mains rotation is that high of an ask.

WoW seems pretty easy to me though, and I’m an extremely casual player. There is TONS of stuff that anyone can do that isn’t really very difficult. Only super high level raids and dungeons and top-of-the-world pvp and stuff is for the ultra skilled. Nearly everything else can be done without being overwhelmingly challenging.
In my rather limited experience, at least.

I see. So the mage tower is the only thing to do in the entire game. Who knew?

Soooo, transmog runs, achievements through normal raids for mounts, massive beautiful zones to quest or rp in, farming materials and selling things on the AH… Raid finder, catch-up gear for alts… Mount/toy collections, regular timewalking and low keys or normal dungeons… Pokémon… Errr pet battles…
I mean yeah. No content for filthy casuals!

That’s where I’m at too. I have a ton of stuff to do. It’s why I asked OP what else is only for the top 1%. Because all I know of is high keys, Mythic raiding and I guess Elite PvP. But there’s so much else, so I’m confused.

Wildstar failed for a whole host of other reasons.
Some of which seem to be at Blizzard now.

I doubt the world quests that have been out for over a year in this expac sparked this conversation from OP. Just an example/facet of their problem I imagine.
But one of those was their attempt to appeal to hardcores, who can ever only be a small part of a successful MMO.

So…what’s this "hardcore MMO’ that you speak of? How does this give you more meaning as a casual? A lot of the content is very much the same…just at a different difficulty. If someone really wants something then is it not fair to make them work for it? Is not the reward in the end of earning it much better than just being handed in to them? Never understood that. There are times when earning may be over done…for example Tortollan rep in BFA to fly. You already need to get a crap ton of quests done, rep with at least five other factions, explore all of BFA, etc. But let’s add on a rep requirement for a race that has nothing really to do with the story, barely any main quests, barely any world quests, and all the WQs are about “saving the turtles.” If I could give a pass to Sylvanus or Arthas in regards to mass murder, even up to genocide, it would be the total killing of the Tortollans.
I think you’re missing the point. Your core gameplay of your game. THe majority of your content should be aimed for the average skill level. Obviously pvp wont’ fall into that unless you do templets or manage gear better. (Way too much you have to learn for pvp anyway.) PVE wise. If you’re hiding your FoMo stuff at the top 1-20% of players. You’ll just have people quit. You need your “big” patch content to be stuff most of your players can clear and earn otherwise they’ll just leave. WoW’s taken a lot of hits trying to learn this lesson.
THey pandered PVP to what the top players wanted, and now we’ve just got dead seasons. M+ LFG’s aren’t doing so hot these days. We’ve got a whole Faction in the game thats about dead. (Alliance players make up only 30% of the playerbase now.)

No, see, it was incredibly popular.
Until the people in charge lost their minds and actually almost fired the person who made double-jump - who was an artist who had to learn to code in order to get their ideas implemented because management ignored them.
This is for -starters-.
