I can only imagine what a new player goes through as he’s being pulled in all directions at the same time, having to jump through hoops for Blizzard which hasn’t even given him a proper tutorial on what to do, nor will it ever at this point.
As someone who played private server TBC and LK for most of my life, my move to modern WoW during legion was one of the most jading experiences I’ve had to go through.
Put aside the fact that classes became so intricate and fleshed out, and talents becoming much more impactful, altering ur playstyle greatly if u choose to. Just the campaigns and the systems alone took me for a ride and it felt like I was in cryostasis for a hundred years and I’m trying to adjust to society.
The game became so solo-oriented that there’s always so many less people willing to help, or are by happenstance doing the same thing u’re doing and are looking for someone to do it with. So while trying to process what my own class was doing, figuring out how it interacts with other classes, I was trying to keep a handle on world quests, upgrading my artifact, doing mythic+, doing LFR, trying to convince a guild that I’ve actually raided before but need more information than “oh this boss works just like X boss in WoD” etc… it all went just as unsmoothly into BFA with having to keep track of like 6 different currencies at a time, each pertaining to a very niche thing that whenever I’d ask someone about it there answer would be “oh X? Thats the most important thing in the game u should focus on”.
The game has become far too complicated and that’s the reason why people are so intimidated by it. Its not the 120 level cap and bringing that down to 60. Whoever thought that was the problem is a an actual baboon. The main problem is WoW is trying to be a singleplayer game under the title of MMO and is providing new players with no real help. You get this joke of journal that tells you HEY YOU CAN DO THIS BUT DONT WORRY ABOUT WHY hurr durr. Kinda upsetting, really.

Here I am thinking about not renewing my sub because I think the game has become a simple lobby game.

only sub if you are thinking about playing classic, classic has alot of kind strangers on there and the community feels like a community and doesn’t feel like a lonely complicated world

We ALL did it.
Everybody CAN do it.
New players does not mean they don’t have gaming experiences.

don’t let complexity intimidate you. many players are willing to help - plus - there’s tons of guides and videos now to help you get started. it’s not as bad as you think
while I agree these borrowed power systems are really confusing for new players, just take it slow, and you’ll figure it out.
One of the good things about having a complex game like this is that it forces you to kind of be social at least a little bit. true solo games do not have options like in-game players that can help you out (like guild mates). This will never be a true “solo” game the way you described it…there’s solo content, yes, but i wouldn’t describe it as a “solo game” under the MMO genre. All endgame content requires teamwork and social interaction to some degree.
joining a guild is a good step in the right direction if you need help or feel like you’re being forced into solo content.
many players enjoy the solo experience, so they play that way…I can’t say most people like that - and there’s more options than we had before with the community options/guild finder…I wish i had that when I returned after my long break in between TBC and WotLK.
anyway, yeah…def join a guild if you aren’t totally done with the game…it will solve most of what you listed as an issue in your post.

In my opinion, they are simply fueling the issue.
Even WoW itself relies on them nowadays, leaving players behind.

to a certain extent, that’s a good thing, because it allows the community to do the work - while the devs can focus on just the game.
a growing community should be viewed as a positive thing…but how do you figure modern guides and videos are leaving players behind? i feel like it’s the community’s responsibility to help each other through the content, not the game’s.
many games back in the day would give you a manual that gave you the controls - a little story, then you were on your own…sometimes you had to pay cash to get hints (which came in many different forms). I think modern community stuff like what we have now is a really good thing for games - it makes it accessible for almost everyone

Wow has been extremely simplified especially as a new player. You’re pratically hand held through 1-50 and then you jump into SL having to deal with… at the moment 3 player power systems. Soulbinds, Renown, Covenants. I think it’s quite contrary to being complicated.
From your post is really seems like you joined back in legion, played for a little bit, thought to yourself “as a new player I wouldn’t like this”, saw BFA go down as bad and think “it’s because of the direction of the game! too many systems!” and when SL came out you decided to give your thoughts with hardly any real work done for a proper judgement

not really, unless you play on a small server
Why would you ever admit this publicly? Yikes.

Why hello yet another Rick and Morty level “wow is too complex for you simpletons” thread.

New doesn’t mean bad or dumb. Those inclined to do so will figure it out the same way everyone else has.
There comes a point where if you need a guide as a new player, your game is badly designed.
The talents are less complicated, and were changed because people were just copying whatever build was considered the best online as content became either more complicated, or they moved from grinds to esports ladders to be able to get anything out of your time investment.
The actual complicated garbage comes from the modern systems, covenant stuff being the most recent iteration of it. Soul binds, covenant abilities, renown, legendary - I miss when you just had abilities, talents, and gear.

I can’t speak for everyone but I know that there are some players such as myself who simply can not learn in this way.
The expectation going into every fight as a pug though is you already know the fight before its even released. Its a bit hyperbolic sure but then we are talking about the same community who has asked for AOTC the week a raid comes out.
It used to be a couple of easy to understand mechanics you could learn on the fly, with end bosses like LK being reserved for the more mechanically inclined. Now days you have fights like Azshara that took longer to explain what to do then it takes to actually down her.

How is this game complex? lol

I mean, sure if you start in SL as a completely new player it could feel complicated.
But if you’re completely new you should be starting at lvl 1 to get an introduction to the game. They made a great starting zone for this and new systems are introduced gradually from there.
Are you serious?
WoW is the most handheld “RPG” of all time. Literally every quest tells you exactly where to go and exactly what to do with giant COLOURFUL markers on the minimap and over your actual world interface.
It could not be simpler, literally, without the playerbase having to assume Blizzard thinks we are all complete invalids.
