WoW is the Ship of Theseus

Two weeks on these forums has me thinking that WoW is the gaming version of the Ship of Theseus , which makes for interesting debate.

Since Vanilla, WoW has been changed a piece at a time until is it something quite different from it’s original form. Yet those playing all this time still feel they are playing WoW. Now that Classic is coming, there is a paradox to define which is the real World of Warcraft?

Those who left expansions ago are seeing their beloved WoW coming back to them. Those who sail the modern WoW see Classic as some old clunker that is in need of some upgrades to match their beloved WoW.

My 2 cents.

Retail is.

Classic is Blizzard going back and putting all the old wood from a specific point in time back together on a steel frame.

Barnacles and all…

I look at it more like a sandwich.

Original wow was a very high quality turkey or roast beef sandwich. Very good bread too. Maybe a little mustard. But that was pretty much it. But it was a really good sandwich.

Later on you added more things in TBC. Like some good cheese. Maybe a pickle.
Maybe even a bag of chips to go with it.

Over time it’s now layered with tons of stuff. Low quality mayo. Burt onions. And someone even thought it was a good idea to microwave it. Now the bread is soggy.

Is it still a turkey samich?
