When I start up my game, as soon as the client launches, my PC shuts off. Fans stop running, display is cut. Lights are still on, so there’s some power running to it. I have to unplug the tower to restart. This just randomly started a few days ago.
I’ve tried Scan and Repair with no luck. I did do a full reinstall, and when TWW cinematic started playing, it did not immediately shut down my PC. I was actually able to enter the client, skip the cinematic and log in with no issues, but the very next time I started up normally, it was back to shutting my computer off. I am at a loss for what to try next.
I would suspect the power supply. Once the game client starts up, the graphics card starts drawing power it doesn’t need to when the system is just displaying the system UI, and a weak power supply voltage rail can cause a snap shutdown under sudden load.
That would depend on your PC hardware. The most power hungry device could be the GPU. PC Part Picker could could give you a hypothetical power need for your PC by building it part by part, then give it a little more power as most things tend to draw more at start up.
There is a app in windows, Event Viewer that might show a log of your PC shutting down, but might not if the power supply is simply kicking off when it senses more draw that it can handle. A Dxdiag might also show error statements at the end that might hint at any faults found before shutdown.
Here is the standard Support article on shut down errors:
Double check the connectors, make sure they are fully seated, they should not need to be torqued in so don’t push hard, just see if they are loose.
Given only the facts presented, I would lean toward “failing”, but I don’t know your system specs. I would definitely assess the power budget even if I suspected the PS was going out.
