WoW is not the game I recognise anymore, I’m Leaving

I’m free! I have finally decided to part ways with my biggest gaming love, and unsubscribe from WoW!

Why?

If I could sum up the state of WoW in one sentence, it would be this. They have traded agency for randomness and loss of control. What does that mean? Agency is the sense that you are in control of your fortunes, that the choices you make are important and will have a meaningful impact on your life. With previous expansions, you had a sense of agency. For example, loot distribution in guild raids was left up to the players, who could choose how best to use the loot. By returning every week and raiding with a guild, you KNEW that eventually your turn would come, and the officers would give you that trinket or that tier piece that you really wanted. There was a sense of achievement when you finally acquired a four-set, or a BiS trinket that made you feel good about yourself, and like the hours you spent doing the content were finally worth it.

In BfA, that sense of agency is missing. For most players, the best gear in the game comes from farming M+ over and over for incrementally better versions of the same gear you already own. Instead of gaining a sense of achievement, you feel more and more despondent as you learn that there’s always a slightly higher titanforge that you might have gotten. The high level rewards from logging in once a week to do a single +10 for that weekly cache means heroic raiding is now pointless, as you will get better gear over the course of several weeks from just doing a weekly M+10 and then logging out again until the next reset. This system has turned gamers into addicts, and it’s exactly what one would expect from ActiBlizzard.

The lack of content, the pointless M+ grind, the loss of bonding that occurred when guilds got to decide how to distribute loot, the loot box roulette for gear from the weekly M+ cache. I could go on and on, but Blizzard have heard it all before. These forums are awash with others complaining about the poor systems design in WoW. So instead, I’m going to just leave this here, and quietly sneak out the back door. So long, Blizzard. Thanks for the all good times.

Quietly sneak out the back means you don’t post a reason.

How else would he get the validation of a bunch of strangers on the internet that his personal choice was a “correct” choice, therefore giving him some sort of good feeling for something as trivial as deciding to stop playing a video game?

See, while you were being pedantic on Blizzard’s behalf, he snuck out. You didn’t even see it.

Why do some many people sound like they watched a streamer and decided RNG is bad all of a sudden. I don’t see any achievements prior to 2018 on that account but the game has always been this way.

Why does everyone feel the need to share everything? It’s like the people who post their vacation on facebook for the world to see, and let robbers know you’re out of town so they can go into your house while you’re away.

That is probably a second account anyway that he just doesn’t feel like keeping on paying for and just wants to make a ‘statement’ thinking blizzard listens to people saying they are quitting more than others.

Lol and then there is YOU, just saying mean things about strangers in topics you think should not exist so that you can feel superior in a meaningless video game forum.

OP shared an opinion. That is what forums exist for. You ran in here to insult the OP and did so poorly, thus making a comment far worse than any quitting topic ever.

The blizzard defense force fangirls run in to insult the Op and derail the thread.

Maybe they think theyll convince him to stay

More likely they think blizzard will reward them for blind devotion .

It is pretty hard to take someone who posts on an account that has achievements at variance with what he says, then add his posting history to the mix, it doesn’t sound like OP was really not ‘free’ in regards to this game.

Good luck OP. Hopefully you find a new game
