WoW is installed but the launcher thinks it's not

Title.

WoW is 100% installed, up to date, but it won’t launch because the launcher thinks that it’s not installed. When I “locate the game” it doesn’t find it, nor does “scan for game” work either.

Go to the Settings menu for the Launcher.

Then choose the Game Settings menu. From there open the World of Warcraft menu on the right.

What does it show under your Install Location?

WoW isn’t even there. I tried that.

There’s nothing.

So in the launcher, when you click on warcraft, at the bottom it says “install”. I take it you’ve hit “locate the game” located next to install, and pointed it at the world of warcraft folder, and it errors out and says the install is broken, yes? Can you post a screenshot of the file explorer showing where you are trying to point it to?

Have you tried Uninstalling & Re-installing the Launcher itself?

Hi Sephyrinx,
Since you cannot try and locate it with the launcher, you can try something else.
Open File Explorer
Find the wow.exe folder (usually in retail)
On the address bar, click the dropdown list so it has the installation path shown
Copy and paste it in your next reply.

Not to necro a thread but just had the same issue after the game crashed my system and figured out how to repoint the game.

You’d think you want to browse to the folder with the exe file but the locate feature actually wants you to give it the folder containing the folder with the exe file, usually C:\Program Files (x86) or C:\Program Files, for Diablo III I had to browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo III because the exe is in subfolder x64 so some games will require a little more detail.

Hope this helps somebody else.
