WoW Interface Addon Developers Beta Invites?

For the past several expansions addon developers have been able to get beta invites from WoW Interface and Curse. Thus far we have not for Shadowlands.

We also did not receive beta invites for WoW Classic.

Is there some new protocol or directive? I cobbled together DejaClassicStats while leveling on Classic release. It delayed development and made me pare back features I wanted to add.

With Shadowlands I have already started receiving bug reports for my addon DejaCharacterStats. I do not have beta access and WoW Interface has not announced access to authors.

Are invites for authors coming?

Since I am playing Classic and retail, I can’t imagine having the time to properly update DejaCharacterStats and my other addons in a timely manner.

i would really appreciate any information about addon author beta invites so I can attempt to plan accordingly.

Thanks,

Judging by how Preach apparently got the Elvui developers into the beta by asking if anyone got Elvui working on Twitter, I’m going to say that this is just a bit of a mess and not an actual policy from Blizzard.

Maybe it’s a lack of policy, but it’s not a policy to avoid inviting addon devs so far as I can tell.

I’m at a bit of a split on this. On one hand I would like Betas to be tested without addons to ensure any bugs are not addon related, and to make sure the difficulty level of encounters are balanced around the game and not the addons.

On the other hand, I want my favorite addons to be available to me on launch day. Maybe the only real answer for this is to allow addon developers in at a later phase of beta after all the important testing is done and they are only doing stress tests.

Don’t be torn. You are correct, this is the way they do it. They have had addons turned off during alpha and the first part of beta. They recently turned on the ability to use addons in beta.

In the past the WoW Interface procured invites have been during late alpha right before it goes to beta. Presumably to allow addon authors to level, learn the new systems, etc. Then the addons are turned on later in beta.

I’ve been in late alpha the last two expansions so it is disconcerting reflecting on my WoW Classic experience and having no access to Shadowlands.

Of course I am concerned for myself and my addons. But the larger picture is exactly what you said; I want all of my favorite addons to be working at SL launch, from BigWigs to AdvancedInterfaceoptions to MinimapButtonBag MBB.

This is never the case.

I am more likely to not play wow because my addons don’t work than ANY change Blizzard makes
