The vast majority of them come from a place of love for a game they once cherished. A game they’ve watched fall from grace, and seems ever increasingly less likely to redeem itself. Sure, some are troll posts but most aren’t.
Im tired of people being told “just go play another game if you dont like this one.”
Well, yes obviously. This isn’t Madden, or Call of Duty or some single player RPG that gets 2 DLC’s and never more content. It’s not the kind of game you just put down and forget about. So they post their grievances, from a place of love, a place of sadness and regret.
This is a game where people have built friendships, relationships, marriages, and more.
I myself have played this game as my primary hobby the majority of my adult life. I met my 10 man wotlk raiding guild IRL. We had dinner together. I met my wife in this game.
Yes, people could just “walk away.” And they are. In numbers never before seen in this game.
So why don’t they just walk away and say nothing? Because again, they care about this game, its been a big part of their lives, and how dare you tell anyone to just play something else.
Be careful what you wish for. The population of sycophants isn’t enough to sustain the game, and its obviously already in a managed decline. So keep telling people to play something else, and you log in one day and say “Where did everyone go?” And you will have to wait so long for new content that Shadowlands content lull will seem like the good ole days.
That’s the problem, there aren’t any other games with the same appeal as WoW. Someone needs to make one so we can leave lol. I’d be the first to sign up! Maybe if R* ever makes GTA VI I’ll be happy for a few months at least. Nothing has the lasting power that WoW has (had). That’s the difference. There are a few good games but they don’t last.
Would you keep eating at the same restaurant if you didn’t like the food anymore? It’s great that you want the game to be “good” again, but that won’t happen when so many people will pay no matter what shape the game is in.
I am just speaking from my perspective here- some of you may have differing experiences, and regardless if we agree or not, I hope you have happiness in whatever gaming journey that you take.
I was faithful to this game for 17 years. Warcraft was my Mistress. It is the longest relationship I have ever had. Quitting the game feels like I just left a 17 year abusive relationship.
I feel relief and sadness, but not enough to continue to play.
i hear ya senkarga wish you the best in whatever you decide to waste your time on next. when all your friends quit not much reason to keep logging in what got me thru crappy angry expacs i never liked they ain’t here now so its time to move on when they all leave me messages saying i ain’t coming back tuesday.
Yeah, I feel ya. A lot of my friends did quit, that was also another part of my decision making.
People I raided with in Vanilla. Some passed away, others moved on to new games… My best friend passed away this year, and it made it harder to play. My sub runs out in August, so I will be around a bit longer- I am just playing, and streaming other games more.
I hope that whatever you do, you have fun as well!
I’m tired of people not putting their money where their mouth is.
If you truly want to see change, hold your wallet to that and stop playing the game. Maybe then Kobby Botick will try to shift course, but unless that happens all I see is a bunch of whining on a video game forum where people are just trying to bring everyone else down, even if they do happen to be enjoying the experience for what it is.
The issue is that 99.99999999% of these “hate” threads offer exactly zero constructive criticism. Are made by people that dont even understand what they are mad at (domination sockets). And are just bait threads.
Negative feedback can be good to talk about and you may say it’s “good intentions,” but it still just gets exhausting at times. Day after day, expansion after expansion, it’s the same constant stream of negativity and drama here.
A fair amount of it isn’t even good feedback, it’s just spamming hate threads of “WoW sucks, Ion’s terrible, ‘X’ game is better, here’s some overexaggerated stats I made up, this streamer said something dramatic, etc” while providing few actual level-headed arguments.
The game changes over time, that’s normal. People change too. Everyone has a million opinions on what they like and don’t like. So it’s ok to move on to new things if WoW isn’t doing it for you anymore. It’s just a game.
Constructive criticism is good, but much of it is just the incoherent rambling and doomsaying of angry people and some of us have gotten tired of hearing that after 17 years on repeat.
They’re mad at the initial patch delay and are taking that frustration out of socketed gear.
They’re not even mad at the domination sockets, it’s just a scapegoat.
Believe me, there’s plenty of material to criticize. Scrapping the herritage armor, abandoning character customization, refusing to take player housing seriously, having raider io incorporated into the game, the projected expectation of having more cash shop mounts, restricting players to one covenant, no anima catch up, no flying in oribos, nerfing Tyrande, no Arthas
I mean these are really the bread and butter that pave this beautiful world. But yeah let’s burn our houses down because the raid drops socketed gear.
They are one and the same. Every paying customer you tell to “adapt” you are intending to “adapt” by leaving so you can keep your head buried in the sand and pretend nothing is wrong.
The devs were tired of supporting an MMORPG in wod. They wanted to create a new game in a different genre, a tiny elite lobby game with a cult following. That’s your end goal, whether you realize it or not, because driving away as many paying customers as you can by ordering them to “adapt” is merely cutting into the long-term health of the game.
Why should Activision continue to support an esports game that sees little viewership and has less than 100k players? And no new players coming in. Why would an actual new player join this game and stick with it? “You can do twice as many dungeons for no more reward!” “Hardly ever see any loot, and most of what you get is duplicates!”
Too many players despise new players. For all the good you think you are doing with that mentoring program, new players start as casuals and need to enjoy that time period. But that’s been removed. There is nothing enjoyable to do while finding their place in the game anymore.
