Will it ever happen?
They improve the graphics with every expansion.
There is improve, and then there is overhaul with new engine.
Too many people confuse graphics with stylistic art choices
Do they? How much has the graphics improved since Legion/bfa?
No, they won’t be changing engines.
While nice, the video you posted doesn’t look like WoW. The graphics and art style are part of what make warcraft what it is.
A smidgeon.
Plus, I’d imagine Blizzard doesn’t want to make the game require a 3070 to run.
WoW runs on it’s own proprietary engine.
It would have to change LOTS of things to run in UE5.
So, I would think switching would be a lot more trouble than it would be worth.
Video looks like some Korean MMO you play for one week and quit forever.
I prefer WoW art style.
Ironically, by doing this, the art style loses its charm and starts to look more and more ugly. Especially in cinematic… Every time a character’s face is closed in on, I cringe so hard from how gross it looks.
I think Warcraft needs a style change.
I’d rather see more iteration on WoW’s engine that allows for new things to be done like better armor fidelity, environments, boss mechanics, etc. That UE5 style would be amazing if they made a Warcraft single player RPG one day (I hope they do this)
Or a new MMO that has the fidelity of Overwatch, but in Warcraft form.
Tbf, that’s for like making games.

The GPU you’ll need for Unreal Engine 5 will typically depend on your workload. For the RTX 3070 8GB, it is efficient enough for most indie workflows and it is a great value for money. For the RTX 3090 24GB, it is perfect for game development, ideal for architectural visualization and you can use it for VR content development. Also, for the RTX A6000 48GB, you can use this for virtual production, video walls, and multi-system workflows. This means that a mid-range GPU will be enough if you’re only interested in creating experiences without high-quality lighting, large textures, a lot of polygons, or many flashy effects. However, if you want to create hyper-realistic experiences, you’ll workload will require a more powerful GPU.
For playing the game is a different story. Taking a lookat Hellblade 2, since it’s on UE5… the minimum it needs a GTX 960, just to shoot one (subject to change) example here.

Realistic graphics always look so dry, washed up, and bland. Let’s not ruin the last thing WoW has going for it with its own art style. If you want a game like this just go play New World, GW2, or something else. They do not need to update the graphics to this level, it is so unnecessary.
It’s one thing to make an environment that looks nice just running in a demo all on its own.
Entirely different to make environments that stand up to loads of players all running around at once. In a huge continent without load screens.
Graphics for MMOs will always lag behind graphics for single player titles.
Ignoring that fact is part of the reason star citizen still can’t get more than 50 players on a server at one time lol.
It has happened already and is continuing to happen.
Each expansion has an iterative graphical upgrade over the last. It’s the old zones that have been neglected.
Zones like Orgrimmar, Silvermoon, and Elwyn.
An engine is a collection of systems. Some game studios prefer certain engines because it’s easier to work with. Other studios make their own engine in-house that allows for a greater degree of interoperability between hardware and software.
The graphics in WoW are fine. If you revisit recent zones, zones like Stormsong Valley, or the dragon isles, they are actually top notch and very competitive in terms of quality and fidelity. Complete with ray traced shadows, even.
No, they don’t need to overhaul the entire thing just to make Elwyn Forest pretty.
They just need to update Elwyn Forest.
Never, it would push out a lot of what the game is marketed too.
Everyone asking for an engine/visual update are running an ancient 1060, or some “gaming” laptop they bought from Best Buy.
It’s a topic that reminds me of the famed WoW 2. I don’t think people really get it.
Having WoW 2 would be like pouring billions of dollars in R&D and at least 3 decades worth of raid tiers for something that does not have any of the mounts, pets, or transmogs that you’ve collected in the previous game.
