I’m not exactly a one-game Andy, but I mostly play WoW, with a little FFXIV, Magic Arena, indies, etc nothing too crazy intense. A couple years ago I bought a cheap Asus gaming laptop and that turned out to be a mistake lol. WoW runs poorly on it, and it sounds like a chainsaw, on top of other niggling issues.
Anyone able to recommend a decent gaming laptop that plays WoW buttery smooth and is whisper quiet? My Mac actually fits this bill, but I can’t branch out into other PC games on my Mac.
EDIT: I don’t travel, but a desktop doesnt work for me. A desktop means I have to sequester myself from my family when I play games, so I like being able to whip out a laptop while on the couch while my wife and kid watch a movie or something.
Current PC: Asus TUF 8GB ram, AMD Ryzen 5, GeForce GTX 1650
Unless you travel around a lot I’d just recommend getting a good desktop. But if you are always mobile, I got my son a nice Alienware laptop that played pretty much whatever he threw at it. I know they’re a bit more overpriced for the brand, but it worked good for what he played.
I just got a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 with the Ryzen 6000 series CPU and the 3040 1080p card and it runs fine on high settings for wow. I ay the Witcher 3 on medium mostly with a few set higher smooth. Think I spent like 700 ish on it. Sadly you need to order 8 more gbs of ram since it only will come with 8. Also will need another ssd or a portable SSD since it comes with just 256gb
I have a 17" HP Probook that handled wow pretty well. Before that I had an ASUS RoG 17" that only lasted 18 months before burning the mobo soldering and scarring my leg.
Maybe things have changed at some point, but my experience with cheap gaming laptops from many years ago was always that they weren’t worth bothering with. Underspecced, poor build quality. Just not really up to playing games at high quality.
The high end ones such as Asus ROG Zephyrus/Strix, various MSI models, Lenovo Legion, Razer Blade, etc. are all excellent. I’ve never handled an Acer laptop but they probably make competitive laptops, too. And I won’t buy Dell/Alienware on principle because I dislike their company, but that’s just my own personal preference.
Many of them will be a bit loud though. That’s just part of being a gaming laptop. It’s way easier to cool a desktop PC than a laptop.
I Recommended get Building Desktop. Since Building Desktop are much Easier to Upgrade than Laptops. Also Building Desktop is more Cheaper than Prebuilt Desktop.
What your Laptop’s Memory Ram, CPU, Graphic? That is ok if you don’t want say. But I think World of Warcraft now need more than 8 GB Memory Ram because my Desktop has only 8 GB Memory Ram and it Loading really Slow on many Blizzard Games. Also my Desktop is not for Gaming, but I think my CPU is from 2015 but it is ok Running on Before 2012 Games.
I don’t travel, but a desktop doesnt work for me. A desktop means I have to sequester myself from my family when I play games, so I like being able to whip out a laptop while on the couch while my wife and kid watch a movie or something.
I grabbed an Alienware 17 inch off their refurbished/outlet page. Still a little expensive, but a nice discount, was in perfect shape and runs like a dream.
It’s not as easy as all that. You won’t be able to just slap it down on your legs and game. You’ll either need to invest in a bulky and cumbersome battery powered ventilated lap desk, or it will just be an overpriced, underpowered desktop. Unless, of course, you enjoy third degree burns to your groin.
If you do not buy a stand then buy the biggest rubber nipples to glue to the bottom to allow more air movement.
Buy a separate keyboard and monitor to use during game play thus your LCD can be closed on the laptop thus saving the quality of the screen extending its life and keep out crumbs and dust.
