WoW, Game Pass and You

So with the FTC losing their court case, MS and ABK are ripe for the merger once the UKs CMA pulls it’s head out and flips. In the past when MS has partnered with other games we’ve seen their Titles get added to Game Pass and in game perks included (See PSO2 In game items, Valorant X Game Pass all agents unlocked + XP boost, EA play and Ubisoft titles added)

What are some things you’d like to see WoW related potentially be a perk of being a Game Pass/GP Ultimate owner? (This thread is purely for fun)

I’d like to see something to do with Either the Sub or Expansions included? Maybe a Discount on the sub or sub included?
XP boosts/Rep Boosts for older reps? I know this would help level alts at least.
Maybe an occasional mount/BP/Toy?
Bonus Tender for the trading post?

What are yalls idea?

Hoping the subscription gets rolled into gamepass. That way i dont have to pay twice.

UK is known tae be very pro-consumer; if Loot Boxes were banned in the UK, we’d never hear about them again. If they’re sayin’ tha deal is bad, and lookin’ between tha lines it’s nae all people hype it up tae be, I hope they stick tae their guns.

ADDENDUM: It’s also too large a market fer Microsoft tae just pull out of; if they had tae drop tha UK tae push tha deal through, the deal would be rendered less than worthless (as in actively detrimental) due tae tha loss o’ market in tha UK.

I don’t have an Xbox, and likely never will have one. Grew up on the Playstation side of that war, lol.

As a result, I’ve never had a GamePass.

I know there’s a PC game pass, but I tend not to play Microsoft exclusives.

I’ve got my Nintendo Switch (imo, Nintendo probably has the best exclusives), for console gaming, PC for everything else.

Xbox and Playstation, most of those games end up on PC at the end of the day.

Nintendo games don’t, unless you emulate them.

Nintendo games also tend not to be E-sports. Smash Bros tournaments are almost entirely community-driven.

as long as the game doesn’t turn into f2p trash like some of these other modern MMO’s, i’ll be okay with whatever!

I hope that this “gamepass” won’t have any benefits a normal subscriber wouldn’t have?

Microsoft acquired another MMORPG (forget the name) and it’s still handled separately.

Thing is, if they put it on the PC game-pass it would be taking a cut of $3-5/month (depending on whether one is 6 month or month to month subscriber). If they put it (exclusively) on the ultimate game pass it would represent a cost increase to subscribers of between $4/month and $2/month depending on how long one subscribes for. If it was on both, those who don’t have any interest in the xbox stuff would just jump on the cheaper sub and that wouldn’t necessarily benefit them.

I could see Activision execs being eager to push a price hike disguised as something else so pushing for it only on the Ultimate Gamepass but I can’t see them or Microsoft being eager to drop the price as I doubt MS cares that much about revitalizing WoW by dumping it free in the laps of all current gamepass subscribers and I doubt Activision execs, even free from reporting directly their performance alone to investors would be eager to decrease the income given how stingy they are with re-investment in the property.

In other words it seems unlikely. Maybe if WoW ever got an Xbox port (but as part of any merger they’d probably have to port to Playstation as well) they might do it but I’m doubtful.

All in all, I doubt it would benefit either the consumer (me) or the devs and the environment for developing the game (not like it would open the cash floodgates at MS whereas staying off it wouldn’t) so I’m not really interested in the potential for complication.

iirc microsoft doesnt touch studios it acquires.

so don’t hope for anything new/different.

You know MS gonna make change to the model, since the current model is not working out as good

They absolutely do with Bethesda being the most recent example and telling them to make their games exclusive IE starfield, Redfall, and i believe in a leaked set of emails it even mentioned TES6

I’d like to be able to use my Microsoft Rewards towards sub time. :dracthyr_nod:

There’s no way the WoW sub would become part of game pass. Paying for game pass is much cheaper than paying for the WoW sub in the long run, especially because you can use Xbox Live Gold codes to extend the duration and those are constantly on sale in many websites.

I’d like to think they would but i doubt it, the actual Sub for WoW is the big money maker not the expansions, they’re more likely to include Expansions on game pass than the Sub i feel like.

What other MMORPGs are on game pass? Even ESO stayed the same for years.

MMORPGs aren’t treated the same, as far as I know.

You won’t see any impact to the game or.sub for years, if at all.

The value of the game pass is they cut deals to get non M$ exclusives in there.

I have the xbox game pass. for 15 a month I find gems I would never have paid for. its in the sub, I try them out and go damn…sometimes trying a new thing finds new games I never knew I needed and would like.

And yes, I have found some dog games that would have me go bad word…I jsut wasted money didn’t I. checks return policy…its no go. Yeah, that money is gone.

In that case the sub is dog game insurance. Uninstall no lost money…and on to the next discovery all for 15 a month.

Its not as big as it used to be, with subs at around 4.5 million subs right now and subs peaked at 12 million subs and kept going down ever since and we are at the lowest, with business’ perspective its a fail

They have already stated sub games are NOT part of gamepass.

The UK ruling against the merger was due to their feeling that it would hurt competition in the cloud gaming business. I don’t think any current ActiBlizz titles would be even remotely fun to play via cloud lag, so I tend to disagree with the CMA’s ruling here. There are actually no games I’ve played in the past 10 years that would have been enjoyable with an extra 70 MS+ of latency, so I don’t see cloud game streaming becoming viable without a few hundred billion investment in Internet infrastructure. The fact that two thirds of the companies that tried out the market pulled out of it right away backs this up.

Sure, because MS is going to eliminate a huge revenue stream just to put wow on gamepass.
