I’ve had this happen twice in the past week where the game freezes suddenly for about 5-10 seconds and comes back very blurry.
Afterwards I exit the game and do a Scan & repair and it downloads a 66mb file, not sure if that actually has anything to do with it though. It doesn’t happen often but it’s pretty annoying.
Drivers are up to date as well.
It’s a display driver TDR in combination with what appears to be a bug in WoW relating to a fallback mechanism.
Essentially Windows is resetting your display driver due to it not responding in a timely manner (usually indicates a driver crash), which is causing WoW to lose the “surface” necessary for rendering. When the driver comes back, WoW re-establishes the display but does so in DirectX 11 mode as a sort of “compatibility” fallback. When the new surface is established for DX11 it is no longer in your full display resolution (you can see this in the options), but still gets stretched back to it resulting in the blur.
Restarting the game is the only way to remove the blur at this point, and will do so without any further user interaction. Restarting the graphics engine (/console gxrestart) is inadequate, and it will no longer attempt to use DX12 in this state so you can’t force it to re-establish the graphics surface at the correct resolution.
I’m unsure what happens if you’re already in DX11 mode before the TDR occurs.
I came here to see if this exact issue was happening to anyone else. It just started for me within the last week. Very frustrating. Restarting the game is the only thing that fixes it.
This happens to me a few times a week, and literally just happened 5 minutes ago while running a heroic. Game freezes, comes back with a custom resolution and blurry because of it. Only way to fix it is completely exit the game. Pretty annoying.
There anyway to fix this issue? Could it be driver related?
this issue is happening to me as well, mostly in and loading into dornogal but happens in other areas as well. same symptoms as mentioned by OP, game freezes and becomes blurry 5-10s later
