What is chatgpt. And why do some forum members hate it. As well as why I am constantly being attacked on my threads for supposedly either using Chatgpt or even worse of being a AI bot.

This has become the new norm in the forums by some forum members to attack posters for using chatgpt or being a bot. Yeah, weird stuff. Well lets start with me. There is one or two people who the minute I post anything come running into my thread accusing me of being a robot? I guess? Or accusing me of using Chatgpt. Which I have never used.

Well some background is needed here: My character’s name is Ai the pronunciation is “I” not “AI”, the name comes from the Bible it is the name of a Canaanite city. That was the initial reason for the name. It’s complicated, so I’ll leave it at that. In modern times AI is considered to mean Artificial Intelligence. So I get the confusion.

When I first started posting in the forum some posters started having some fun calling me an artificial intelligence robot.
I laughed it off. Fed into it a little. Kinda funny. Then came what appears to be one or two forum members that accused me of using Chatgpt.
Which I never even heard off until people started talking about it in the forum.

I looked it up and it appears to be a computer program which can produce written texts, from instruction parameters fed to it by a person. I will leave the technical side of this to people who actually know how it works.

To make matters worse. Like I said. Some people were having some fun saying I was a robot poster.
I myself went along with the gag. Thought it was funny as all getout! But apparently one forum member became obsessed with my
character. I got the feeling they really thought I was an Artificial Intelligence. Because of the virulence of their attacks. I’m hoping I’m wrong about this. But at that point I decided to stop kidding around. This antagonistic hostile person is weird as they come. I didn’t want to encourage their delusion.

Imagine anyone on this forum actually believing that I’m an evil robot. So to that person I will say. Relax, I’m not using Chatgpt.
I am not a terminator robot from an alternate universe. Or an alien from space or some artificial intelligent self aware computer monster. I’m just a sci-fi fan and a goofy nerd with an exaggerated sense of humor.

Ok. Getting past that. My question is. What exactly is Chatgpt. Why would anyone want to use it in something as mundane as posting in a forum. We already have spell check. Most people make very short posts anyway and it’s not like we are discussing
important topics in say the American Medical Association forum, or the Nato forum for Scientific research, right?

So why do some forum members get so bent out of shape by just thinking that someone may be using Chatgpt? I mean, like Who cares?
And does this forum have people so gullible that they actually believe that there are computers that are like the ones in the Terminator movies? And that these Monster Computers post on the Wow forums? Really? Really?

Because it’s honestly kind of creepy of how advanced it is.

Even to a point where it’s seeping into mods or tech demos and you can actually talk to them and they talk back. :cold_face:

The norm? I don’t see people using ChatGPT as much here to be the norm.

I think people would more likely accuse you of a ghost given your Profile pic is just blank.

Robots are fairly bad at holding and articulating their stance on subjective matters, at least from what I’ve seen. It’s like they don’t understand the nature of subjectivity because they don’t have the emotions or even the knowledge of human growth that drive that distinction. When you’re talking about objective principles related to tech and conversation over the internet its very easy for a robot to mimic the methodology many people use, but that’s because its an objective stance.

It doesn’t help that when people ask what class to play they include information like “I like daggers” but leave out objective variables like “I’m terrible at mental math”.

I think its very easy for people to confuse people who give objective answers to subjective phrases as robots because they don’t see how the person responding has just been on the internet long enough to realize objectivity is usually the direct path to a solution and the subjective desire behind questions are better suited for a non anonymous audience.
