WoW does not launch

Both retail and beta hang when I press the Play button. I can see a new process being created but nothing happens. No splash screen, no login, nothing.

If I press the Play button multiple times multiple processes will appear and hang.

I’ve tried running the .exe directly with the same outcome.

Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Exact same problem here.

Patch day usually brings out security software blocking, viruses unfortunately like altering .exe, but so do patches. There was another thread, AVG so far was identified.

Having the same issue as well.

Looks like the following post also talks about the same issue.

I don’t think uninstalling will help.

I’m having the same issue. I’ve tried doing scan and repair, reset in game options, running battle net as admin. All have the same issues.

The process is clearly there in task manager but there’s no cpu, disk or network usage. If I close the process, it allows me to do options like scan and repair and such.

I don’t have AVG. I use Window’s built-in software; Windows Defender.
WoW was working for me yesterday.
Interesting to note that when I tried Midnight Beta a number of weeks ago I have the exact same problem and gave up trying to play the Beta. Now’s its a big problem as I can’t run retail anymore

Same Issue Again! Also using no Security software.

Howdy Everyone,

We recommend disabling any anti-virus and/or overlay you might be running. These often cause problems after a patch. Next make sure your video drivers are up to date, just to be safe.

I have also bumped this up the chain.

I don’t have any AVG just the basic Windows virus and threat protection.

I followed Article ID: 000379275 to no avail.

It must be related to the new patch since I was playing just fine this morning. Bummer….

I also only use windows defender. I do not run any overlays.

Thank you. I’ve updated the drivers and have disabled anti-virus and rebooted the computer. No luck there. Thanks for looking into this.

Hello again!

For those running Windows Defender make sure to diable that and try as well.

Same, I was just playing it yesterday so it has to do with the patch. I tried disabling windows defender and still no go. I don’t have overlays and I have the latest driver.

Turning off Windows Defender does not solve the problem.

I’m not sure why it would, but does anyone have Bitlocker on?

Just spit balling, I have it off and use Windows Defender only, but had no issues running the client, Beta, PTR or Retail.

I do not have Bitlocker on.
Retail was working yesterday before the patch.

Yes, I turned it off earlier as well with no success. I am trying a full fresh install. However, when the game allowed me to initially click “play” (with barely anything installed), it still did the same non launch thing. I restarted the install from scatch and will wait it out this time.

Let us know. I don’t feel like going through another fresh install.

I’ve tried the following:

  • Delete Battle.net tool folder
  • Disabled Windows Defender
  • Scan and Repair
  • Spammed play button (dumb)
  • Ended all non essential tasks

Both Beta and retail having the same issue. I guess will wait till tomorrow and hope for the best.
