Both retail and beta hang when I press the Play button. I can see a new process being created but nothing happens. No splash screen, no login, nothing.
If I press the Play button multiple times multiple processes will appear and hang.
I’ve tried running the .exe directly with the same outcome.
Patch day usually brings out security software blocking, viruses unfortunately like altering .exe, but so do patches. There was another thread, AVG so far was identified.
I’m having the same issue. I’ve tried doing scan and repair, reset in game options, running battle net as admin. All have the same issues.
The process is clearly there in task manager but there’s no cpu, disk or network usage. If I close the process, it allows me to do options like scan and repair and such.
I don’t have AVG. I use Window’s built-in software; Windows Defender.
WoW was working for me yesterday.
Interesting to note that when I tried Midnight Beta a number of weeks ago I have the exact same problem and gave up trying to play the Beta. Now’s its a big problem as I can’t run retail anymore
We recommend disabling any anti-virus and/or overlay you might be running. These often cause problems after a patch. Next make sure your video drivers are up to date, just to be safe.
Same, I was just playing it yesterday so it has to do with the patch. I tried disabling windows defender and still no go. I don’t have overlays and I have the latest driver.
Yes, I turned it off earlier as well with no success. I am trying a full fresh install. However, when the game allowed me to initially click “play” (with barely anything installed), it still did the same non launch thing. I restarted the install from scatch and will wait it out this time.
