My friend recently updated her computer. She got a prebuilt with a 4080, asus mobo, 64 gigs of ram… its nice. However, Wow classic and live she cannot play. It seems to crash at random and takes the entire computer with it. It starts out fine, then she says her fans spin up and it locks. I looked over the winevent logs and they are strange, however, I cannot pinpoint the issue as WoW is the ONLY game this happens with.
Sounds like a thermal issue. Run HW monitor for aa little while while wow is running but before it crashes then post the results on pastebin and post the link here
here is the link its a program that monitors the hardware installed thing like temps and voltages
wow is very CPU dependent unlike a lot of other games. Many prebuilt and home built computers skimp on the Cooling solution on the CPU. Most prebuilts come with the stock coolers on top of the CPU . Stock coolers work ok if all forms of over clocking are disabled. AMD power now or intel speed step.
So its not a heat issue. I had her take a picture with her phone right before the crash. As soon as the fans spun up.
Everything is well within normal range.
CPU, GPU, RAM, were all within normal ranges of 40 to 55c under load.
As for the CPU itself: I7 Intel. I had her turn off any mobo related OC.
The winevt logs are weird and reference some strange libraries that have nothing to do with the game.
If push comes to shove I will have her wipe the entire machine and load the OS from scratch.
I had a similar issue with a computer when I left the military that they shipped. I would start with reseating the ram and the video card. It’s possible that during shipping that they work their way where they’re not fully seated
