WoW could use “world” gear… it could solve some issues

By that I mean, gear that uses a median item level that is boosted greatly in world (questing) zones. Also with added traits (maybe even set bonuses) that only function in those same world zones.

This would allow for full Mythic progression for world players but it would not (in any way) be “mandatory” for any type of instanced play.

This stuff could be great as Rep/Renown rewards.

They sort of tried that in SLs season 1 with the covenant sets. It wasn’t well received.

We had it in ZM and it was liked.

I don’t remember the ZM set having a set bonus for world content…but I could be wrong

it had set bonuses from the raid

Not a set bonus (although you could get tier sets eventually out of raid) but it’s ilvl was increased by doing world content.

In ZM you could socket “Cypher Equipment” (world gear) with all kinds of bonuses, the most popular being “Toxicialic Emanation” which provided a huge damage buff (but only worked in ZM and not instances).

The S1 covenant armor sets had a set bonus that only functioned in world content like the OP is proposing which was what I was referencing.

Those did not go over very well.

Yeah and S1 was hated for other reasons. People didn’t like SL much at all. Especially the covenant stuff.

because raiders hated it, i bet.

only cater to raiders

I wasn’t here for that, but I suspect that they didn’t give it the power needed to be effective (and liked).

If done right, completing your world progression grind should make your gear equal to (if not superior to) full Mythic raid gear in the outdoor zones… with significant set bonuses.

Whatever they did, I doubt they took it far enough.

In this case, I don’t think that was actually true. The ilvl capped at 3 below normal raid so it didn’t effect raiders at all.

World content can easily be achieved with world quest gear

It cost anima to upgrade and anima was very limited at the beginning of the expansion. There was a trade-off between upgrading your gear or upgrading your covenant sanctum.

And you don’t see how making giving open-world only players a path to gear superior to that obtainable by those who do end game would be a problem?

That would essentially make it mandatory for end-game players to farm that gear to support their crafting/expendables needs. Believe it or not…progression raiding is expensive, and many guilds have to make their own raid supplies.

They did tuat the beginning of SL. It was neat! Then they just… stopped…

Then it could be done even better with higher powered gear… after all, I haven’t seen a lot of instance players desire to abandon their instance gear when playing in questing zones.

Even so, with actual world-based gear progression, Blizzard could add a bit more of a power spread to world mobs.

I really don’t want to have to carry around 2 extra sets of gear.

What content are you progressing through? No world content is difficult. None of it. Zero. It is all absurdly easy.

I would HOPE that the relative skill of end game players would be able to overcome any difference in relative gear power. Their gear is not reduced… it is still fully functional.

Besides, if they are doing things in the world consistently, then they should be getting some world gear from it as a result anyway (specifically gear with powers that aid crafting/gathering).
