WoW community saturated in negativity?

I have fun playing this game, but damn, it seems like this community is one of the worst I have seen. So much bitterness, resentment, anger, discrimination etc... it's like most of the people playing this game just let out their bad sides whenever they play it. Isn't this a game? That you play to have fun and goof off with friends? Some people are more competitive, some are casual etc, but really the core of a game is to have fun. I'm no optimist but it kinda hurts when I can hop onto another game and find a community that is much nicer/more welcoming than this one. Not everybody here is unpleasant but it certainly seems to be more noticeable in this community.

Part of the reason seems to be a general dislike of Blizzard and their lack of interaction with the community. I can somewhat agree given what I have seen in some other communities. Everything else, its as though all the bad personalities clash and fester and it all turns into a cauldron of horribleness. You slip up in a group for a dungeon/raid and you never know if someone is gonna explode at you. Not everyone says "Hey its cool, this is just a game, we can try again.", instead some simply berate you. A bit of anger is understandable if you've made the same mistake multiple times and have not bothered to listen to feedback/try to do anything, that is on you. But if you died once or twice but are otherwise ok it is a bit concerning for it to elicit so much anger.

I got a bit of perspective when I hopped onto another game to do some multiplayer matches. The game type was similar to a typical dungeon, tanks, dps, heals, but more focused on working together to survive in an arena. I had never done this mode before and mentioned it. I hadn't read anything up on it, except that it was a team-focused arena mode, because I wanted to just dive in fresh. I was generally confused and screwed up a bit, we lost the first game pretty fast. The whole time the other team members were patient and helped explain things to me. By halfway through the 2nd game I was doing pretty okay and we held up well.

It wasn't just that one group either, generally most I run into on that game are pretty calm. Thing is, from the get-go I was bracing myself to be yelled at/kicked because of my experience in WoW grouping. This struck me, and I gave some thought to WoW's community. What came up made me feel disheartened and generally afraid to interact with anybody here. Am I just having bad luck with people here, or is it something else?

WoW's community has sadly grown to be like this over the years, after all there's not many systems in place that actually encourage better behavior. Dungeons have devolved into being utterly quiet, with no interaction from people.
Alot of these players have been banned or silenced before and now seek revenge for the actions they have done to themselves.
The days after the 2018 Blizzcon is not a good example of the WoW community, or any Blizzard community.
You are completely right. Blizz decisions have contributed to it, but it's up to everyone to accept or have good sense and think out of the matrix. As you said, wow is just a game.
This level of negativity is completely due to the expansion being a dumpster fire and blizzard not caring.
I don't see this. Perhaps the common denominator is you.

This.

If it is "negativity" to complain about the removal of flight, tuning issues, scaling and the million other things large and small they have done wrong then so be it.

Blaming the community for being negative is really blaming the victim.

I don't so much mean about complaints about the game itself, but rather people's attitudes towards others. The way they interact with new people, etc and how it affects the tone of the community. Game complaints will always be around for almost any game, because there will always be problems of some kind, because many modern games are often added to/changed. Not always beneficially.

I understand not everybody is a spring flower. But directing anger at other players doesn't help things.
Wow's community as all walks of personalities,as dramatic as you can get.People are generally friendly ,very open in feeling and caring ,i seen and experience this in game as i was leveling this toon.

Yet on the flip side,it can become a battle field ,a show wit ,division and condescending vulgarity. What you are witnessing is what humanity is on the internet it's what we are in the world today and a true test of ourselves as individuals in a community.
I'm a returning player from cata. I am shocked by all the changes they have done to the game.
for me, /2 chat has died off compared to when i started 10 years ago. barrens chat was still a thing, even as alliance back then.
lol it's because of the attitude of Blizz people, "do you guys not have phones" lol I never get tired of that one...

If you don't see them in chat it's because they have guild chat and twitch to talk to folks .It's not a bad idea ,but it took away communication with those that don't use these features or don't want to use them for other reasons.

A human can only deal with so much negativity before it starts to spill over. Some of it is generated with the game or interactions with the community or IRL stuff, like work, family and politics. Just learn to be patient of other people's impatience and tolerant of other people's intolerance rather than adding to the melee. The overwhelming majority of people sometimes ACT like jerks if you happen to cross their path at the wrong time but are generally pretty good people.
Well. You have a lot of people playing that clearly hate the game.

Or just want to be edgy.
The majority is silent dollar voters. Forums posters are the minority.
Saturated? Not hardly; there's plenty of room for a whole lot more negativity. Some are just not trying hard enough.
Nah, negative folks tend to voice their opinion more openly. Its like one person yelling in a library and you claiming its noisy :)
