I’ve been playing Wow Classic basically since release and have a massive problem. Since day 1, I have had incredible amounts of lag. Let me explain:
- I get 1-2 second delays on nearly every action, sometimes 3-4 second spikes
- My latency often sits at 76 exactly, sometimes 200-300 randomly.
- My internet is really good (~250 mb/s on speed tests), plays Overwatch and HotS with <40 ping.
- I’m east coast, this happens on east coast servers as well as west coast.
So I have tried everything under the sun to try and remedy this. FYI I am using a Wifi internet coming from another room, so direct connection isn’t feasible, thats the only thing I haven’t tried. What I have tried, Examples:
- Blizzards official “checklist” of things to try and resolve this, did them all (added ports to firewall, flushed DNS, reset router, etc.) linked here https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/112214 .
- Turned off my firewall completely
- updated drivers for my wifi and pc
- turned graphic settings down (even though my PC is top-end, get 140 fps on OW with epic settings)
- uninstalled/reinstalled Wow classic
- even opened up my comp and cleaned it out!
I have no idea what the problem is, nor how to fix it. It is mind-blowingly frustrating to have such massive delays and lag issues nearly all of the time while playing. The game is essentially unplayable expect for some basic grinding at low levels. When I use to playing retail Wow, I never had such issues.
Any help would be appreciated!

Same thing here. I was able to play this morning fine. Then around noon when the server started populating, I started getting disconnected with crazy latency spikes. This has been happening all weekend.

Been dealing with this as well and did all the troubleshooting as well. I was hoping one of the tuesday resets would help it but no luck. Pretty annoying to say the least
Have any of you had any resolution? This has recently started for me; literally just started while I was hunting in SoS one day and has continued. Absolutely nothing has resolved it. I’ll randomly go from the usual 77 or so latency to several hundred (occasionally higher). Absolutely nothing has helped, I’ve gone through every step outlined that I can find, and am on an extremely stable connection and rig.
I’ve been lagging hard last 40 hours or so. Every since update, on two different PCs. Reset modem and router, released/renewed and flushed to no avail. internet is fine just WoW that is lagging (classic) going to try retail just to see.
Same problem as others. Done all of the troubleshooting steps. .5-1 second UI lag. Random latency spikes. My game will lock up, people running in place but chat seems unaffected. It’s not all of the time and happens more commonly when population is higher. (I actually rerolled to a lower pop server so it wouldn’t happen as often) BfA plays fine. All other games I play are fine. Updated all drivers, great internet etc. I’m patiently waiting for some update to fix it but it’s getting a little discouraging. I’m open for any suggestions.
I temp fixed my problem by going in to the folder and deleting Cache folders. It cuts my lag down but unfortunately i have to do it kind of often ish, and it doesn’t always do the trick…
This used to happen every few days to me. I restarted the game when it did and it would be fine, but since earlier this week it’s been relentless. Can’t go more than a few minutes at most before latency skyrockets and either a disconnect or as mentioned, the world freezing but the chat working fine.
I had posted this issue in a separate topic, and didn’t get a reply from anyone at Blizz, same as has happened here. What exactly warrants a reply on their part, especially given how many different people have posted with this issue? I can only assume this means their either aware of the issue and have no comment, or simply have nothing constructive to add. Anyway, I deleted EVERYTHING and reinstalled, and everything was great…for about an hour. After that, despite a new server/toon, the lag was right back. I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of to fix it at this point, to no avail. Pretty much ready to just let the game sit for a month or two, and try again at that point. It’s not much fun as it stands right now.
Edit: FWIW…the “deleting Cache” idea seems to work. I did this and now the game is running with a latency of 39/40ms. Anyone with technical expertise care to guess at why this fixes it?
I rolled back Windows update 1903 to 1803 and I feel like it’s made an improvement, but hasn’t completely fixed it. The lag and DCs getting worse lines up with when that update was installed, but maybe it’s a coincidence. Deleting Cache didn’t seem to help for me. At the moment, it still acts up every hour or two as opposed to every couple days like it was up to less than a week ago.
Disregard my last reply… it’s been back for a few hours for me and it’s as bad as ever. I’ve tested almost every change in network device & gateway settings that I imagined would even remotely give a hint among other things, and I have nothing. No possible solution I’ve seen online so far has made a change, such as deleting Cache and WTF or flushing DNS. I have no connection issues anywhere outside of WoW, as also mentioned by a few others. I’m assuming there’s little to nothing I can do on my end, so I guess I just have to sit this one out which is particularly frustrating since similar problems are still going weeks unsolved.
Gonna have to add a ‘me too’ to this list. 33ms latency, but laggy laggy laggy.

Same issue. When I log next time I’m disabling all of my audio input/output. I was noticing the wowvoice kept engaging even though I don’t use it. I’m wondering if that’s the problem. Good luck and good lootz.
Hey all,
While you all may have similar symptoms, most of you are reporting vaguely different issues. There are plenty of players playing right now without any such issue, and this is a month old thread with only 15 posts.
I recommend you all disperse to individual threads. The OP has what is probably a wifi issue we’d need a winMTR to diagnose, several of you are reporting addon issues, and a few are reporting probable issues with a particular wifi card that has been acting up lately. I haven’t dug into all of your individual issues because they are all similar but different, but if you need help and aren’t getting replies on the forum for this error, try the troubleshooting in this guide and contact support for more help if it fails.
