WoW Classic has server sharding..

I don't know what else to say.. This alone will likely break a lot of what made vanilla WoW great. Instead of feeling like you're in danger, either from players or mobs, you can simply do a zone change and be safe.

What are your thoughts on this? Am I simply overreacting? I don't care for sharding on live servers either. Never have..
You aren't over reacting.

It is like ordering a pizza from your favorite restaurant that brings back an old flavor they used to have and then you eating it only to realize they changed the ingredients.

You have every right to complain, because it isn't the pizza you wanted and thought you were getting.
It's a red line for me: https://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/20769678382#post-10

If this makes it to launch, I'm done with Blizzard entirely.
If this makes it to live I'll simply stick to private servers.. Which makes me sad.
This was and is my biggest deal breaker (and worry). I will not play Classic if it has sharding in it. :(
This had better be a demo only thing. Dealing with trials and server merges is going to be bad enough, but I would probably try to stomach through it and hope we end up with a good server community. Phasing would be the last nail in the coffin for me.
This better be because they aren't done. Or else it's back to private servers for me.
I'm hoping the sharding is left in because they're expecting heavy server load for the demo. Or something. Or, they just forgot to take it out.
I have never been one to post on here and this is my first post however I really believe it is important that the voices of the original players are heard. I think I speak for a lot of us here when I say that those of us who enjoyed classic wow enjoyed it for what it was. There were some aspects of wonder associated with the outrageous lag that would occur during massive world events (within reason, nobody likes to be locked out of wow due to overcrowding). I think that if Blizzard is able to mitigate the lag associated with the beginning of classic when there will be a dense concentration of people in the starting areas, everybody would prefer to deal with the lag rather than SHARDING, which absolutely kills the game IMO.. The sense of community WAS vanilla wow. Logging on and seeing your friends in passing, and randoms who you barely remember from way back when. I really hope Blizzard proceeds with caution, this could have a terrible effect on players conception of World of Warcraft as a whole. Coming from somebody who has played the game since they were a child in 2nd grade, I would be destroyed if they include this in the final version. Changes are the exact thing that we DO NOT WANT, period the end, no if ands or buts. I understand it is a very difficult feat they are undergoing and I have faith they can make us proud, but I warn them to not tamper with what was imperfectly perfect. Being a beta we can not freak out, however Blizzard needs to hear our voice.

Same here. And I'll make sure to pass on the message whenever the opportunity arises as well.

Great first post dude.

You were in 2nd grade I was in college. Same opinion.
I really really don't want to go back to private servers blizz. Don't force me to just so I can play the game I love.
No man, I can sense from your words how disappointed you are, I feel really sorry for everyone that was hoping for the last year for a true Classic experience, but as of now, this is not the wow classic we were waiting for.
thats one of the biggest things i miss about vanilla. sure, the people will be different because a lot of us have been around for a long time but seeing a living world, meant a lot. that whole 'mmo' part. i really miss seeing people jumping around, acting exited and chatting in zone chat, grouping up for challenges and even making lasting friends. cant have that if you force/give an option to alienate people. ignore is one thing, because sometimes people can be toxic and abusive but thats not the same thing as doing it to a whole community for no reason other than to inflate/manipulate numbers.
Well it's going to kill finding groups for dungeon runs at end game.
If there's few warriors in your "shard" then good luck at getting a tank while there could be 25 warriors in another shard standing right next to you.
If there's sharding in the final version I think most of the classic community will roll on private servers. For that reason I don't think Blizz would leave it in. It's likely just an element in the demo, because of the expected demand.

Where?
Sharding will ruin the community aspect of Vanilla.
Nothing like running up to help a player and being zoned out.
Gankers in X-Roads/Redridge? Sorry you're on server 2 and im sharded to server 4

thats something i dont get. if classic 'isnt popular', according to what a lot of anti classic/vanilla people say- then why is this needed at all? but if we ignore that drivel and talk about facts- why take the road of sharding and not just increase a few caps for the demo or even launch of classic? how is sharding at the start okay but NOT just increasing spawn rate at the start? they both can be reset later on. i know for a fact that server stability isnt the issue. its not like there will be ONE server that everyone will have to play on. nobody does that on current retail, why would they do that on classic as long as there are multiple options. 15k+ people are NOT just going to pile onto ONE server. unless that is the ONLY one they have up.

cant help but keep coming back to the same conclusion- that this was added JUST cause reasons and has nothing to do with anything legitimate.
