WoW Classic graphics.

What will the graphics be like on classic WoW? Will they resemble modern WoW, or will they resemble old WoW.
We don't know yet, but this job opening was posted semi-recently:

https://careers.blizzard.com/en-us/openings/oYEO7fwh
Do you long to travel back to Azeroth before the Mists of Pandaria parted, and before Deathwing broke the world? When the fog obscured the view into the distance, and weather had just been added? Do you have fond memories of the original character animations, and spell effects? Can you help us restore that look to our modern engine? Then the World of Warcraft (WoW) Classic Engineering team has an opportunity for you.

We are working on bringing that world back to our players, and we need engineers to restore that classic appearance. Our work spans all aspects of the game, including client, server, tools and gameplay work, and we support partnership and collaboration, so we hope you're passionate about learning and growing, as well as sharing your knowledge with us.

We’re looking for somebody passionate about both our game’s history and future, and unafraid of stepping into unfamiliar systems. We need somebody with a deep understanding of C++, as well as previous experience with shaders, and graphics engines, but also excited to chip in all areas of development.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. "Every Voice Matters" is one of our core values, and diverse voices help make sure we consider different points of view. We also strive to maintain a healthy work-life balance for our teammates with loved ones or other responsibilities at home. If you think you can help us out, please apply.

Responsibilities
Restore old models and animations
Re-implement old shader behavior
Transform database data
Build classic UI elements
Repackage binary distributions
Work closely with artists to revive the classic game elements

From that post we can infer that Classic will probably look just like Vanilla.

However, it is unknown whether Blizzard will implement a toggle or other graphics options to make Classic look better than it did in Vanilla.

Yeah, I don't want to get my Hope's up, but I'm hoping for Old Models.

Hopefully it will look old, I like the old look, and I never got to experience it since I only started playing recently.
I hear they are going 8 bit
Hopefully, a toogle where u can change the old and the new graphics.

Some of the old spells used to look great. Wrath looked really naturey and cool, before it was reskinned to look like you were throwing butter at the enemy to better fit the solar/lunar theme.
Basically, the old models, textures and animations will be reverse-engineered to work on the modern engine and architecture. It's a re-creation, not a straight re-launch.

8 bit is still better than the garbage they have now

LOL! Dude, that would actually be kinda cool............................ er crusty, ROFL.

+1 Studs.
Also hoping for an HD toggle. Though I’m guessing they will use the original animations in either case. The old graphics should be the default setting.

Agreed. If they don't have the original spell graphics, I will not play it!*

I've said this elsewhere, but on modern hardware with max settings the graphics in 1.12 are fine, and many zones are beautiful. Outside of a few egregiously pixelated textures you'll see in some places, the cartoony graphics design of WoW has held up quite well over time.

*I think the original spell graphics matched the style and lore of WoW better. E.g., the original premise of Balance druids was that they balanced nature with arcane, but on live Balance is basically this weird astronomy arcane mage with most nature connections purged.

I also absolutely cannot stand the new Arcane spell effects for mages (especially the new sparkler arcane missiles).
I'm not that purist, I wish graphics were like today's instead of feel like I'm playing a PS2 game in ~2019. Everything else vanilla.
The job posting has assuaged one of my biggest fears, that we'd be getting the ugly new models in Classic. I want big shouldered orcs and human females that don't look like bootleg Elsa toys back.
I'd love a completely original take on vanilla but having updated graphics would keep more players around longer imo.

I run MC every week in retail but shamefully have also raided for the past year on a blizzard like private vanilla realm. I have to say I like the new models and animations but dig the old experience and gameplay. If they did only a graphics update to a pure vanilla build I can't see to many people complaining in the long term.
I feally could care less about the graphics. Its thd immersion and community i am looking forward to. Had my fill with the retail trash served and a platter.
I want a command prompt WOW Classic in black and white with only text commands, but I am going to have to live with whatever the devs decide I guess.

Other than people suggesting (aka trolling) on the forum about graphics toggles, have the devs specifically mentioned graphics toggles? Hope you won't reply with something stupid like blizzard polish as justification for toggles.

They mentioned in a Blizzcon interview (that came out much later) they hadn't decided if they were using HD models or not. The latest watercooler and job post indicates they're using the original models and animations. Which is fantastic news.

They've never mentioned a toggle. That's purely an invention of the forum posters. And there won't be one. They couldn't even get it to work in the Current WoW...or didn't bother to try. It creates all kinds of clipping issues and just looks bad. Vanilla means Vanilla. You want to toggle newer graphics? Toggle which game you're playing.
