Blizzard found a way to hit the reset button on all their mistakes, and instead of doing better they decide to repeat the exact same mistakes.
I hope they keep some wrath servers and don’t push all the characters into cata. Congratulations to the 4 people who wanted cata I guess.
Who exactly did you ask when you said “we asked the players”?
So far reading the replies online, there are very few people who want this
I know there are a ton of mixed opinions about this but it is something I’m genuinely looking forward to (our GM is in the complete opposite camp though, lol).
With that said, definitely need more details, like a more specific date (it’d be crazy if it came out in like February, that wouldn’t even really be enough time with ICC let alone RS; I feel like April at earliest would make sense) and whether this is replacing the WotLK servers like TBC did or not. Considering how monumental of a departure Cataclysm is from WotLK, I really hope they at least leave a few WotLK servers up. They can probably consolidate a bit since by then I assume a lot of people will be done with ICC and either rolling Cata classic or doing other things.
One thing they never had the resources to do in retail that I think would be super cool would be to keep the old world in entirely with a Zidormi toggle. I doubt it’ll happen, but that’d be very neat!
Cata had some MILD clapping from 100 people it seemed. SoD had some cheers. Metzen had the most and Retail had more than other expansions
there was NO CHEERING for Cata. Some clapping. almost like to be nice to the host
Noticed the same thing, the crowd was pretty quiet when it got announced 
I was watching it live and noticed waaaaay more cheering for the SOD stuff some time later
I think it’s gonna flop personally, Cata I mean. On the other hand, when Wrath Classic hype was cooking in late-summer 2022 you could tell the energy/hype was real
I jumped on the hypetrain too since Shadowlands was in a content drought at the time, I think August/September I barely touched retail and casually leveled up a new toon to like level 62, it was fun 
People made that up. It’s not based on anything. I think Cata is better than Wrath, having played them when they were new. But the Classic crowd will only look up from their spreadsheet to tell me I’m wrong. I’m sure I’m not changing anyone’s opinion.
This isn’t anyone’s opinion. It’s a line people are told is for intelligent people. But Cata was hard. All of it. And to pretend otherwise is ignorant of history.
Yeah, people often forget this
Casuals are in for a… “surprise” when they find out the dungeons are basically high-Mythic+ difficulty with lots of 1-shotty mechanics and absolutely brutal/unforgiving trash mobs 
From what I remember, Cata heroics basically required “coordinated” style gameplay where you had to use hard CC on almost every single trash pack, interrupt deadly 1-shotty abilities left and right, etc
I didnt play retail Cata - but I’d LIKE to believe you - Im sure with people progressing from Wrath with 10,000,000 gold and full tier 10 gear and alts maxed out with AH bis and full enchants that the world will be steamrolled DOA - all this new content and nobody will EXPERIENCE IT - on the ground… From level 1. Shoulda done FRESH Cata servers to Legion
I haven’t really agreed with anything you’ve said today either, but I did say this something just the other day.
It makes more sense to keep Wrath servers up and make Cata servers seperate starting back at level 1.
The players today are much better. They also said there will be changes
I hope they keep some Wrath servers too.

If you are reading this, sir, will you and the rest of the Blizzard Development Staff/Team please consider the option of keeping a portion of your WotLK Classic servers? I for one would even pay a separate subscription just to play on a BC/Wrath Classic server. Seriously, I would even donate plasma to gain the funds necessary to pay the cost of said subscription.

I’m Classic and I don’t have a spreadsheet. I can tell you my personal experience was Wrath was better for me. Cata was definitely a fun challenge, and I agree it was difficult.
There is no right or wrong, it’s all subjective. I am not going to say anyone who prefers Cata is wrong, because it’s all an opinion based on your own experience.
If people are happy for this, I don’t have a problem with that. I’m not and I hope they can give both sides what they want.

well classic you had a good run. I had one cata expansion already and that was one expansion to many.
Maybe people dont remember but I do.
Cant wait to hear people complain about how short firelands is just to go into DS and hate every single second of spine
the reason we wanted classic was because of the cataclysm. smart move here would be just to create a different server for cata and keep wrath. history will repeat itself. kill wrath people will unsubscribe retail wow and find private servers again. why not incorporate classic into retail. you have those npc’s where when you speak to them they will send you back to a classic era Azeroth (ie blasted lands and Darnassus). but this time just create a whole scenario where you start at level 1 in which ever era you wish. not sure if that is possible, but something to think about.
Please, please, please, PLEASE, of all the classic expansions, Cataclysm and the expansions past it are NOT ‘Classic’. Its the end of the old world, its the start of the ‘modern’ WoW experience, and goes against everything we wanted out of Classic World of Warcraft.
To this day, I’m so incredibly thankful you let us start this journey, and let us keep the Classic Era Servers, and even have these Seasons; Mastery and now Discovery, all amazing. But. PLEASE. Don’t make the same mistake you made with the Burning Crusade. Do not remove our ability to play Wrath of the Lich King forever again. Let us raid ICC and Ulduar until the sun burns out, so that we don’t need to turn to Private Servers.
So once more, please. If you wanted my 2 cents, this is where you can jump ship. You’re already doing it with Season of Discovery, you’re adding new raids, changing old dungeons and raids, giving us runes to augment our abilities…
Instead of jumping into Cataclysm, take the Classic game into a new direction. Take what worked from Cata, even MoP, and do something new built in Wrath of the Lich King. Seasons of Mastery and Discovery, but for our level 80 experience.
If people want things like Transmog, Dwarf Warlocks, Tauren Paladins, and so forth that we got in Classic, then ADD them to Wrath of the Lich King, it could be changes for Wrath’s very own ‘Season of Mastery’.
