I’ve noticed that when I open wow, my GPU temp skyrockets to 171 degrees and the ulitization is at 99%. When i close wow, it drops back to 60’s or so within 10-15 seconds. All my wow settings are low except for particle density and view distance.

Also, not sure if relevant or not, but if i try and put wow in windowed mode, the client freaks out and crashes, and i get an error ‘unable to start 3d acceleration’.

Anyone with similar issues? Do i need to buy a different card?

Do you mean 171F? Your computer should shut off before reaching 171C. If your video card is reaching 171F (77C) that would be normal but would be a little high for CPUs. You may want to take use HWMonitor and take some screenshots to send to us:

  1. Maximize the HWMonitor window and expand all the nodes on the left
  2. Scroll all the way up
  3. Take a screenshot with the Print Screen (prtscn) key
  4. Open up the program Paint and press ctrl+v to paste in the test
  5. Crop the screen if you want to only show the test, then save it as Test1.JPG
  6. Scroll all the way down, then repeat steps 3-5.
  7. Upload them somewhere like imgur and link us to the results.

I wasn’t able to find any crashes being sent to us, so let’s also get a DxDiag to take a closer look:

  1. Press Windows Key + R.
  2. Type DxDiag and press Enter.
  3. In the DxDiag window, click Save All Information.
    4)Name the file “dxdiag” and click Save
  4. Paste the DXdiag into the post, select and highlight everything you just pasted, and hit the “code” button (</>). That’ll make the information much more readable.

That is a strange one. Assuming your computer or video card heat sink is not dusty.

My RX 590 Nitro with driver 20.8.1 has no issues. I can change from window full, to window all day long. With settings at 10 with FPS capped at 100 my max temp was 51c and average in the 30’s. The fans are only running at 18% My fans do not even start until 45c.

Edit: The fan 18% is utilization. They were only running 18% of the time. For utilities I like Trixx 8.0 from Saphire, it should work on most AMD cards. I just do not slide the sliders to overclock, as I do not need to. Edit Again: Trixx also has a fan spin-up test. One fan, the other, and both.

Thats interesting, where are you getting your drivers? The AMD website only has that garbage software of theirs that doesn’t do anything.

As posted, the trixx software comes from the graphics card company sapphire.

That is my issue with AMD. The 2020 drivers are everything in one. It is what we are stuck with. Since I upgraded from a HD 6670 to the 590. I tend to use the beta driver but there is also the WHQL one also.

I am having a similar issue. 800w PSU, brand new AMD RX580 GPU and while WowClassic is open, it randomly distorts then goes to black screen and the freezes the game. I am getting diagonal squares going both directions across the entire screen, sometimes blue sometimes red, then black screen and freeze.

I have the latest December 2020 drivers installed from AMD.
