WoW China names and shames accounts who break TOS. Should US follow suit?

I have a Chinese WoW account and sometimes go on their forums to see how players over there are enjoying the game. I also think they still might be the largest region.

They have a section on their customer service forum under “penalty”, which appears to be updated daily by Blue Posters, of people who have “speech violations”. They list the server and the name of the individual. It seems kind of ruthless, but at the same time, you can check and see if you’re report actually worked.

They have a post for people who cheat in PVP as well.

Nope, I am all for reporting people but no need to a penalty section. Besides it would backfire spectacularly here. The culture and mindset in China is a lot different than the culture and mindset here.

I think naming and shaming should be a thing for cheaters, along with a permanent tag on your account for everyone to see. The tag is only there since Blizzard doesn’t ban cheaters anymore, since they always get to come back anyway.

No. The moment we start taking pointers from a communist dictatorship is the moment we have lost.

I think you should at least be able to post screenshots of chat or videos of bots/cheaters with names. I don’t like the idea of just naming people with no proof.

This is a Blue Poster on the Chinese Forum who is posting this information. So it’s from WoW China, well Netease. Sorry if it wasn’t clear. I’ll update the post.

Just something I found totally different than we have it!

Whenever I see a post like this it reminds me of my mom telling me this in my mouthy teen years, “This is a dictatorship, not a democracy, you have no say”.

My parents used to say the same thing. Hated them for it, but 30 years later I realize how dumb I was and how right they were.

Khadgar used to keep a blacklists of ninjas and just really annoying and bad players in Vanilla.

I’m not against more accountability but I sincerely do not think that people would actually learn from it. More than likely, it would be viewed negatively and somehow those on the list for being cheaters and such would garner sympathy.

Chinese “speech violations” are a tad more… severe than what we have here, like, “gets you sent for reeducation” severe.

This is not a model to emulate.

But photoshopped ‘evidence’ would be okay?

I would abuse the system and report the goody two shoes thought police.

I can imagine some posters viewing it as a badge of honor. People might try to break TOS so they can be like “lol I’m on the special list”

My favorite. “Because i siad so”

Just read it twice. Not sure why you got flagged.

I feel like nobody here would care. If you can still play the game why would anyone care?
