WoW causing kernel panic on character load in Boralus portal room (Sonoma)

I posted on the thread about wow crashing on load just in case, but my symptoms are different so I’m starting a new thread as well.

I updated to Sonoma 14.1 today on Iris Plus. I am able to log in just fine. I can play some of my toons. One of my toons is broken.

I was playing that toon and teleported to Boralus Harbor. The teleport room started to load, then the spinner came up, and then my computer restarted. I’d had a kernel panic

I tried again. And again. And the fourth time, the portal room started to load, then the screen went completely black and I had to force quit. I tried again. I logged into another character and used the character unstuck feature. I tried again, still in the portal room, still panicked.

I scanned and repaired. I tried again. I renamed the special rename me folders. I tried again. I uninstalled. I reinstalled. I tried again. I uninstalled. I moved everything remaining into another folder. I reinstalled. I tried again. Twice.

This is a consistent error keeping me from playing my main. I can’t even figure out how to get a real ticket filed so I can get a GM to move my character to a different zone. I’d happily settle for my hearth location and just postpone my trip to Boralus (or try on a less played toon).

this is part of the massive issues with intel iris pro in sonoma. sadly you picked a bad time to update as sonoma just doesn’t work right on intel iris pro GPUS as we’ve seen from mass amounts of feedback. in fact you’re getting further than most users.

UPDATE: I moved a second toon to Boralus Harbor to prove that Boralus was the problem. I got a GM to move the toons out of Boralus and that fixed the immediate issue. Since then, I have only been going places on alts to test them before going there on my main. Dawn of the Infinite is a no go and unstuck doesn’t work, of course. I assume that all instances are out. I also crashed flying over Maruukai but I was in Azure Span when I logged back in and that didn’t get the toon stuck.

I’ll be working on wiping my harddrive to downgrade to Ventura on Thursday.
