WoW causes computer to freeze with Loud Buzzing (audio loop)

So. I just took my desktop into a local repair shop who did a cleanup and repair as well as installed a brand new GPU. My old one was failing and causing my computer to crash like this no matter what i was doing.

Now, it only does it on WoW. I have Reset the UI, set to directx11, uninstalled and reinstalled WoW, played without any addons, done a scan and repair, my drivers state they have no other updates, I’ve disabled streaming… and WoW is installed on an SSD

GPU is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 3gb, RAM is 16gb

and here’s the DxDiag pastebin(.)com/D0F0cGRf

Edit: downloaded a temp scanner, sitting at around 30° gpu and 65° to 70° core

And I have nothing but telegram and twitch running

That is beyond the thermal limit of the CPU. 61.5 is the thermal limit. The package is hitting 82 C witch is way beyond the thermal limit of the CPU. What kind of cooling do you have

It seems to be crashing.

Just the heatsink on the msi motherboard. Normal fans, plus a desktop fan blowing right on it.

When you took it to shop did they remove the heatsink and change the thermal paste?

They put two different Heat sinks on those see images below
If it is the first one did they remove the fan when they cleaned it. The first one it is very hard to get the dust out if you do not dissemble it

They were pretty sure it was the GPU causing the problem so that’s all they did. They ran a gpu stress test on it overnight after they installed the new one and it didn’t have any problems.

Looks like the kind I have is the second one.

WoW is the only thing that causes this to happen, even monster hunter world doesn’t do this to my computer :frowning:

WoW is very CPU intensive. I had several FX CPU’s before wow runs them on the hot side. I would start with getting a can of compressed air and cleaning out the Heat sink

If that does not work you may need to get a better CPU cooler. But do not panic an Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120mm PWM Fan will keep the CPU very cool and its not that exspensive

Thank you! The repair is still under warranty with them so I’m going to haul it back on Monday and explain to them what I’ve found.

The GPU was deffo failing, that absolutely needed replacing. I’ll talk with them and let them know my results and then talk to them about a better heatsink if they have anything or if i have to wait to order it.

You’ve been amazingly helpful thank you so so much!

Glad to Help

I went to best buy and actually picked up a self contained water system from Corsair and it is working like a dream. My top temp was 60C and my current while playing 40C

Thank you so so much for pointing this out

NP The new Temps look good
