For what it’s worth, there were parts that did things right. The raids were amazing, Ashran was good, Challenge Mode dungeons and what not. The content was good, it’s the Garrisons and lack of content that ruined the expac.
It was a promising expansion but Blizzard decided to call it before they were even half finished with it.
This pretty much. I want to collect all the stuff, but the grind is too big this time. Plus, I’m only seeing 25% of the expansion since it’s too much of a slog to do it again on alts.
You got it all wrong, this is the good expansion.
Last week the next one was leaked: Warlords of Azeroth. It involves farming Azerite from your garrison while Paladins occasionally kick your door down and beat you up.
Thats why i’m so excited for that riot mmo, i if its any good i might leave wow permanently
Eh, it ran out of steam but at 5 months old it was way better than SL is IMO.
They were actually working on legion before then the original plan was for the next expansion after WoD to come out a year later .
THis is a few days after WoD announcement
THis is a recap from a Legion developer Q&A about 2 months before Legion launched.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6naYlc6r0o
Legion systems was why WoD lacked content and not the lack of content in WoD causing the systems (Artifact weapon/ap) in Legion .
Classic is going to carry sub numbers hard, moving forward. They were smart to keep it on the same subscription, helps hide things a lot better.
I liked BfA. The professions were annoying, but I like the questing, and story. Full disclosure, I came back from an almost three-year hiatus to play the last 9 months of BfA so maybe I’d feel differently if I were there for the start. But I enjoyed it.
WoD lacked content because they couldn’t get the garrisons to work, but they were too committed to them to give up so all the development resources went to that instead of Karabor or more WoD content, and then, knowing what boat they were in, they threw in the towel and moved on to Legion rather than trying to play catch-up after launch.
Legion didn’t drive that catastrophe, WoD was the problem with WoD.
WOD was dead on arrival.
whatever idiot at blizzard decided to repeat catas launch BUT WORSE by shoehorning the entire playerbase into clicking 1 single item. in cata it was that stupid rope to get on the seahorse in vashir. hundreds of thousands of players across all of the servers all steamrolled into clicking 1 rope. it melted the servers.
WOD had hundreds of thousands of players to millions of players all trying to click on a banner to then spawn hundreds of thousands to millions of private instances to start there garrisons.
At the beginning of WOD the entire game was unplayable for 3-6 weeks. you had people account sharing to get there guildies to get them into the 8-16 hour Qs while people went to work just to try to log in, while the servers were melting out of the racks at blizz. then you have the huge problems with the story. absolutely 0 content to do @ launch. apexis being a 1000% completely useless currency at launch. nobody at blizz thinking about the ramifications of the mission table coughing out 10-25k gold per day ( per toon ) crippling server economies on top of the mine and herb garden. at least BRF was one of the only highlights of the xpack.
shadowlands though… theres a lot going on, and none of it rewarding. anima is both pointless and too inaccessible. souls from the maw are both needed and pointless. torghast has pretty big tuning issues, but also because it lacks features other roguelikes have to increase success chance. you can literally burn 2 hours for nothing. ive had multiple runs of twisting corridors where the entire run is a cakewalk and get to the last boss who one shots you. other than corrosive dosage, monks dont get any real big power upgrades in torghast. so if you combine that with getting nothing that stacks HP or defensives your entire run is dead.
covenants as expected from the blizzcon that they were announced all have meta picks. because blizz idiotically tied power to them. if they were there for cosmetics and story only, they would of been perfect. but blizz gating power behind them takes a lot of your ability to choose off of the table.
imagine for a second that you didnt have to choose a covenant for your ability. and you chose for cosmetics and the story. you finalize 1 story and then you move onto the next covenant to do that one. unlocking all of the xmog, the mounts etcs and you move onto the next. on 1 toon alone you have what 40 weeks worth of content from just the story unlocks. let alone when/if you want to do it on alts. whats this remind you of? yeah class halls in legion. where i would finish one class campaign, then begin leveling the next alt to see the next classes content and to unlock all of there stuff, then do the mage tower on the next couple of specs. blizz shot themselves in the foot by locking power into the covenants. instead of a HELL OF A LOT of content for 1 toon to do ( let alone alts ) you are locked into only doing 25% of the content available.
like who greenlights this stuff? whos making these stupid decisions? blizz keep designing problems for themselves. why do they continually shoot themselves in the foot like this? this is some EA level BS.
this xpack has gigantic potential, but man is blizz fumbling this hard. and there isnt a light at the end of this tunnel yet.
It wasn’t all bad. Uldir was a fun raid and 8.2 had a lot of good stuff. 8.1 and 8.3 were both rather lackluster though.
I’m not sure that blizzard can do much to change the World of Diablo systems. It would mean admitting defeat. It would mean redesigning the whole Shadowlands expansion. Also an expansion with the theme of the “Realm of Death” with current world events is just something they can’t change.
THey were already deep into working on Legion before the content drought .
Even Ion has said they messed up trying to get the next expansion out in a year and that they would no longer be attempting that .
Garrisons worked fine once you got past the first few days .
You think they threw in the towel and started working on Legion instead of trying to play catch up ? THey are most likely already working on the 10.0 expansion and they probably started doing it by the time SL started. Why do you think they are able to tell us what xpac is coming next half way into the current one.
If you have notice Riot Games as of late. I think that’s their plan to begin with. They’re trying to go for the title.

" I believe it’s focus on Miss Fortune’s lore"
They’re not holding back so I respect their tenacity.
sadly it could end up that way but SL isn’t over yet.
if they don’t manage to save this expac i do fear many will quit. once shame on you twice shame on me type of thing. it’s like saying oh you got rude customer service and bad food at a restaurant. second time u go to give it 1 more chance same thing. will you go a 3rd time? f… no.
they got time to save it that is if they are willing to if not then yea i myself will be quitting for good. said it to myself long ago i just don’t mess around with businesses like that.
That’s right random player, you say jump, Blizzard says how high
I mean we had WoD, Legion, and BfA back to back, that’s already 3 in a row so I don’t think two in a row matters anymore my dude.
Blizz going for that 4 peat though I guess.
Not saying SL in general is bad, but lord have I not given two craps about the story.
The only thing that bugs me about this expansion is how much of a drag literally everything is. World quests take so long to complete and they reward such a small amount of anima.
The moment I see a progress bar when I hover over a world quest on my map, I know I’m in for a slogfest.
On top of anima grinds, I need grateful offerings to buy anything from my covenant quartermaster, which means I have to upgrade my anima conductor if I want to get more grateful offerings.
I usually don’t complete the anima quest on my alts until the day before the reset.
they can’t even balance 12 classes and you want 1 more
really they have to fix this garbage systems… the expansion is so alt unfriendly from pvp to some degree pve too.
conduits/renown/legendaries all garbage tied to power player.
