WoW Button Bloat

On the forum I see posts about how Wow is suffering from Button Bloat. I understand this to mean the number of keys to press regarding abilities, spells, actions a player has to press at any given time when in combat. So ok. that brought me to the following question:

What in your opinion is the perfect number of Buttons/keys to press during combat that you would feel comfortable with? You can choose any number between 1 to 100.

just 10 buttons will do.

use the One Button Rotation feature, to those who suffer from button bloat

For a rotation? 4-6. With cooldowns? 8-9? This isn’t including buttons such as crowd control, defensives, or interrupts. That’s usually a decent sweet spot for classes personally.

If the people complaining would use the one button solution Blizzard gave them, that would be great.

2-3 frequently use buttons.
2-3 less frequently used buttons.

Most of my classes have 18 to 20 regularly used combat keybinds. That’s a touch more than I’d like, but its fine.

On a side note, with Blizzard clamping down on add-ons. There is a chance encounters will become more challenging since players can’t automate away the mental load anymore. Thus rotations might get simpler as something will have to give to keep the difficulty manageable.

I believe blizzard stated they wanted to keep fight difficulty but remove some of the complexity as some of the reason(s) to kill addons. As for spec complexity, their in game resource tracker is getting decent with the latest looks at it.

Enough buttons to fill a console remote…
/clears throat
Just sayin

Button bloat: Mistaking options for requirements.

ESO and FF14 have 20 action bar buttons plus additional buttons for menus, mounts, etc…so there is plenty of room for buttons

They’d just have to add bar swapping or modifiers, both of which are already available in WoW

I like having interesting rotations and a nice suite of defensives, cooldowns and utilities to go along with it.

So, no I don’t think button bloat is a thing and I wish people would stop demanding that WoW get further dumbed down.

OBR exists, go use that if you think button bloat is a problem.

With that said, I don’t think they need to add more buttons, but I don’t want to see another pruning either.

As long as everything I need can fit on 3 action bars, I’m happy.

Button bloat doesn’t exist, the people complaining are just lazy and/or bad and want an excuse.

I would agree with this assessment.

I think button bloat only really applies to abilities involved in a basic rotation, where the far majority of specs are fine anyways

The real bloat is the passives

5~6 buttons should be the max for your regular combat rotation.

1 defensive cooldown and 1 offensive cooldown.

2~3 utility buttons. We don’t necessarily need every class to cover every kind of utility.

All other buttons should be out-of-combat buttons like Rogue poisons, hour-long buffs, and Druid shapeshifts.

may i know, how do you manage to handle so many buttons without getting confused at all times?

especially during tough fights, it’s hard to manage the buttons and looking out on the screen during boss mechanics

muscle memory and practice.

I think so long as each ability has a different function. Corruption and curse of agony for example are effectively the same. Just to pick an outliner.
