" After updating to Win11 23H2 its no longer possible to open context menu on desktop while WoW is running, instead of opening context menu wow window becomes active. It doesn’t matter how you open context menu: with right mouse click or by pressing hotkey, behavior is exactly same in both cases.
Repro steps:
Start Wow
Minimize wow, for example with Win+D hotkey
Right click on desktop to open context menu
Wow window becomes active instead of opening context menu.
This is also happening with OW2, D2R, D4, but not with D3.
This is not happening with third party games (i’ve tried CS2 and can open context menu on desktop just fine while CS2 is running)."
In tech support we troubleshoot crashes and disconnections, not bugs with Windows versions and external menu system effects. Please post bugs in Bug Report
I’m on Windows 11 23H2 and I just tested it out with WoW+bunch of other games and I’m not seeing an issue. Start+d followed by right clicking my desktop works just fine. I know it was buggy for a while for years starting around 21h1 or 22h1 or something like that, but it seems they’ve fixed it at some point because even I was expecting it to do the usual maximize the game window thing.
Make sure you aren’t changing any compatibility stuff on the wow.exe executable. I know a common thing people do is disable fullscreen optimizations because some guides from four score and seven years ago years ago recommended it. And maybe also make sure you haven’t disabled MPO in your registry, another common fix for other unrelated issues a while back.
Now I should also state that yes, it will try to re-focus on the game if you’re in let’s say the file explorer and you close the window to it, then yeah, WoW will jump back into focus.
