For soome reason I have been experiencing constant distortions in WoW’s music and dialogue since the patch. I’m not sure what’s causing it, but it does seem to be a WoW-specific problem, everything else I’ve listened to on this computer still sounds normal.

I’ve been seeing a few of these Audio issues since the patch dropped. I wonder if some setting was defaulted in the Menu > System > Sound. You might experiment with the Hardware settings found there.
There have been various issues caused by addons as well. As a test you might try a full UI reset.
As I mentioned this is a test. If it doesn’t help simply remove the OLD from your original folders then delete the new folders the game installed. This will return your original settings
