I hear a lot of complaints about how WoW isn’t easy to get into, which is 100% true. But a lot of people seem to think the barrier to entry might be the time it takes to level a character and to gear. And those same people claim other successful games don’t have that. While it might be true that the process might deter some people from playing; it is not true that other games do not have this.
League of Legends is a popular game that is not an mmo, but it’s a lengthy process to hit the necessary level to play rated. While you could say that it’s different from wow because you can just jump in and PvP, nothing is stopping you from queuing a skirm or bg at lvl 20.
In league you have to unlock enough champions and hit level 30 to play ranked mode, which is the premier mode. The amount of time it takes to do this, is about the same amount of time it takes to hit max level on WoW. I would also say that during this time, you are learning valuable knowledge as a newer player on what your spells do and how your character interacts with the world (of Warcraft). Which I believe is the purpose of leveling process in both League and WoW.
The leveling process exist, so that you can get your feet wet before entering in more challenging game modes. And blocking people from just jumping in might deter some people, it’s better to allow a player ample time to get used to everything first.

LoL is dying in NA at a rapid rate as well, or well losing players and no longer gaining. Video games just don’t have the longevity of sports.
is it? i mean i guess all things can’t last forever right?
Its easier for lol tbh. Just randomly kill someone till they spam slurs in chat then report them and theyll get removed in a instant. Ez win
to bad that is their 99th account
just LoL things

LoL is incredibly complex. Its not good enough to just understand and play your charcter, but you need to understand timings, level and gear advantages, track cds, force cds, map control…
wait…
kick a soccer ball then, Chad. Go play sportsball. Nerd.

Its because the general public cant get into the viewership of esports. Most people dont understand, all they see are a bunch of sweaty, unathletic nerds play. to make it worse, the games are so complex that you have to literally study it to understand whats going on.
On the other hand, a game like Soccer or American football are fairly easy to watch, dont take much to understand oh the dude go the ball passed that line and seeing someone with a 60" vertical jump in the air doesnt take any actual understanding of the game for a layman to go, “OMG what a freak”
Those of us who do watch esports understand all of these things for that particular game. Like why Faker is renowned for his incredable reaction time. But in order to understand that you have to understand the game, why the reaction was needed, what would happen if he didnt and then compare it to your skills on whether or not you would have even recognized the situation to begin with to even be able to react to it and then if you do, can you react fast enough to live?
OR, nope, i def cant jump that hi, thats insane.
Eventually tho, sports and esports will combine as VR and AR become more developed. We already have Esports at the Olympics. Not sure how well it was recieved but VR archery sounds just as boring to watch as regular archery.
LoL is built from the ground up for one very tightly controlled game mode.
WoW is built for like 20 different things and Arena is somewhere on the lower half of that list.
Also LoL has been in serious decline for a while. Its’ big surge in players happened when WoW was hemorrhaging players after cataclysm.
Id like to input something funny. One of my friends I played wow with for years asked me to play league and invited me to his club there. It was called “Here cuz WoD”
But fr tho i can boot up league queue up for a game and be in one in less than 5 minutes. Ezclap.
