WoW Android

Has anyone tried playing WoW retail on an android device using something like Winlator?

Doesn’t need to be great - reposting auctions, occasional quest, maybe LFR as a stretch goal.

I would have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse handy, so no need to worry about touch controls either.

WoW requires Windows or Mac OS. It cannot operate on a Chrome book since it has no actual, feasible OS.

My understanding is that winlator “emulates” windows, sort of like WINE does on linux. The WINE version does work on linux.

I know WINE is technically not an emulator, but you know what I mean.

There was a youtube about it maybe a year ago?

I think they used WINE to get it running at 60fps. The other issue would be performance as you need a decent phone

It emulates windows, but does not have the KRNL proc needed to identify a windows installation with a complete directory. Unless something has changed, WoW does not run on Chromebook. And even if it did, Chromebook proc power would feel like playing on Dialup.

You are welcome to try!

Probably easier to just use a Steamdeck. Runs well on medium settings; there are guides online.

Yeah I know. A steam deck is linux under the hood.

However, I’m eyeing the tablet form factor for what I would be doing when not gaming.

Just use GeForce Now. It runs on mobiles and tablets and runs wow

I’ve had it running on steam link on a phone before, it’s really really not a good experience at that screen size. Your best bet currently would be to use geforce now if you wanna play it on a tablet.

Edit: Did wanna say, it’s been brought up before but wow on steam deck is amazing. I can get 3 hours easily on my original LCD, I’m sure you can do 5 on a fresh OLED battery. Had to raid lead on it when we didn’t have power due to Helene and it was not a desktop but was completely doable.

Probably the best call. Steam link sort of works, but if I’m at my apartment, I would just use the computer directly.

Nice. Yeah steam deck is an option and then rog ally x/Legion go I suppose.

Lol, yeah it’s more a test of what is possible. I have a gaming rig, so its for when you are out and about (visiting family or whatnot and have downtime). If I bring my desktop, pretty sure my family will have an intervention (and justifiably so).

Sounds like at least for the time being, geforce now is the way to go.

Maybe ipad if they ever get their stuff together. Surface Pro works too, but it’s heavy by comparison of other tablets, and android is still kind of off the table atm.

Used to stream it using the Remote Play app on Steam through my S20 to do quests and stuff from my last job when things were slow, using a bluetooth keypad of course.

It’s not viable to run keys or instanced content on, the triple layer of latency (pad - phone, phone - pc, pc - wow servers) makes the game respond sometimes over a whole second after the inputs, but it was good for doing weeklies out of the house.

GE Force Now is a good option, but one you’d have to be careful with. Technically it’s against ToS to run the game on any third-party streaming platforms, and GE-FN has had people reporting temp bans from using it in the past.
