Hey y’all, I just wanted to ask about WoW and gaming laptop temperatures. I’m pretty new to owning a modern laptop and I want to make sure my machine lasts for awhile.
I’ve noticed that my fans get pretty loud when I’m playing WoW. I know that laptops struggle with cooling more than desktops do and WoW is a CPU-heavy game, but I want to make sure I’m not in danger of frying my system.
My largest concern is the CPU temps. The GPU stays fairly cool.
Idle or doing low effort tasks like browsing or chatting with friends, the CPU temps run between 31°C and 39°C. Playing WoW when not much is going on in-game, it runs between 43°C and 57°C. Doing things in city capitals, PVPing, or raiding, it runs between 60°C and 70°C. I’ve never seen it get to 80°C or anything that high, but the temperatures still concern me because I won’t be able to get a proper gaming desktop in the near future and I want to take good care of this laptop. Are these temperatures acceptable?
Some notes:
- I keep the graphics around 4 or 5 and the FPS is locked at 60 fps.
- I undervolted it (it was undervolted out of the box).
- I use a cooling fan that props the laptop up.
- I regularly check the fans to make sure they aren’t clogged with dust.
- I’ve set the Max Processor State to 99% (it was originally 100%), which has helped with temperatures.
- I don’t run a bunch of extra programs or addons while I’m playing
- I know I should probably repaste it but 1) I don’t know how and 2) I don’t want to mess up my warranty.
Here’s the laptop specs:
Acer Predator Helios 300 (2019)
16 GB Ram
Intel Core i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz (12 CPUs), ~2.6GH
Windows 10 64-bit
Direct X 12
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Graphics Card
144hz Display
Thanks everyone!
