Wow and Free Speech and forum Censorship

Did someone disagree with you?

If the reason for closing your business can be proved to be to facilitate illegal refusal of service, you can bet your hindparts it’s illegal.

That said; on the assumption that you are going to want to function as a business on an ongoing basis, it is not particularly functional to close up shop every time a gay person comes to visit.

Unfunctional as it may be. Legal it probably is. Even if its done to refuse service. I just don’t see how they can stop a person from going home if they want to go home. But I regress, I just like to think of loop holes when ever someone says something in an absolute. Very few things are absolute. mostly only death.

They can’t stop you from leaving. They can sue you, fine you or jail you if the reason for that leaving is provably illegal.

All sides eat silences here, as all sides report people and Blizzard only actions people who are reported.

Idk why you’re pretending “the left” is the only side that censors, bans or otherwise limits speech or freedoms lol. Western history is littered with examples of the opposite. Heck, the biggest conservative subreddit is notorious for not letting you post there unless you wear a tag saying you’re conservative and you can get banned from it without ever visiting it if you say something anti-conservative on any other subreddit.

It is not a public place. It is the private property of Blizzard. As such they are allowed by law to make the rules.

You are still going on incorrect assumptions that are based on a blatant and obvious misunderstanding of what “the right to free speech” encompasses.

You need to stop, man. This is starting to look like projection and I’m not above making anonymous calls to authorities if I think it’s worrying enough.

“Free speech” does not cover incitement to violence or insurrection. It is not the obligation of your intended victims to talk you out of pulling out a gun and shooting them. Death threats are illegal.

The constitution isn’t laying out a framework for how small businesses are supposed to act. The entire purpose of the document is to lay out the powers and responsibilities of the government.

If I run a Taco Bell, I’m not obligated to let you use my store to preach the gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. It disrupts my business and bothers my customers. And I don’t care if you shout “free speech” as I have you escorted out the door.

Same principle applies on a video game forum. Not sure why this is so hard for people to grasp.

I read somewhere that swearing isn’t actually protected under free speech either.

As opposed to? You basically just described every social media platform that ever existed, regardless of their censorship positions. I mean reddit heavily censors and it’s widely considered one of the most toxic places on the internet dominated by group think. Hell I’ve gotten banned from subreddits simply for posting in other subreddits, it’s cancel culture dialed up to 11.

Frankly I’d rather be able to determine for myself what is and isn’t acceptable instead of having my corporate overlords decide for me. Just give me the tools to block people and I’m good.

Obviously the topic is discussing speech within legal confines. You quoted an example: “Hate speech” has no legal basis, as opposed to hate crimes. Therefore it is subjective, but enforced on private platforms such as this, for example. That has nothing to do with illegal speech, which are obviously not allowed by virtue of them being… illegal.

You’re free to type whatever nasty insults you want. No one can take that from you, but just don’t cry when no one wants to deal and report you. At least you were able to be a jerk like you wanted.

Yes, I think that as long as the player is expressing his legitimate opinion, no matter how unpopular or outright reprehensible it is, he should be allowed to say it with no fear of repercussion.

WoW is a global game with a global audience and it needs to be open to hear opinions from all cultures, all political alignments including ones considered unacceptable in certain countries.

No, I’m against censorship of any kind.

I think the only things that are acceptable to be removed by moderation are things like spam, ads, and other things that prevent the players from communicating.

Also, since the goal of this forum should be discuss things related to the game, anything that is not related to the game in any way should be removed.

what are you trying to get at?

do you think all adults enjoy being surrounded by “adults” who act like petulant children who swear like sailors?

…and just to clarify, I can swear up a storm with the rest of them, but online interactions don’t require it.

there is nothing in this game which requires my potty mouth to be activated via my fingers on the keyboard.

Please review the founding documents, you will find your answer there.

No, but you must be an adult, and as such you should be able to handle yourself as one, you can tick the profanity filter and ot ignore and report the individual and move forward.

There is no need to post in the forum as if the entire game is like this, I have yet to see or read any of it in 14+ years! I have never seen this rampant racist remarks ever…

Some suggest its all constructed outrage!

the existence of the profanity filter doesn’t mean people can behave how they want.

maybe you didn’t read past the first few lines of the EULA…

No, but the fact they have it means its allowed! Act like adults and move along… Report people if you feel they are extreme.

People spend so much time trying to suppress others its ridiculous.
