WoW Addons

So with all the indegrated addons they’ve been adding to the game over time, do you think the time will come when Blizzard decides that they will no longer support any external addons?

No, as they stated their goal is to replace the combat addons. I doubt they are going to really touch much else.

never know

combat and mechanic related addons, possibly.
stuff like Farmhud, transmog stuff, auctionator and other various addons that have nothing to do with combat or mechanics…nah…they’ll leave those to do their own thing as long as no rules are violated

no, they’d lose so many people, most people don’t care about combat addons, but start touching rp or cosmetic ui addons? yea, that would be an uproar

I think they really just want to do away with the combat add-ons and integrate it into their own system. I don’t think for a second they’re going to go out of their way to make something like you’ve got mail or postal or all the things.

What would be the point of that?

fyi this is not a doom and gloom post. Just curiosity is all

Nah.

I’m fairly certain they just want there to be less of a barrier to entry for new players.

Instead of being told “download this and that and also these 3 things” they can just play the game and at least a barebones version of all of those things will just exist as a baseline.

As a tangent, I hear a built in DPS Meter is coming. I -really- think more MMOs (and games with this style of gear and power scaling in general) need to just embrace that instead of leaving it to 3rd parties (or straight up outlawing it ala FFXIV despite including DPS checks in the game).

It’s important information. It helps make it clear if a build change (be it gear, talents, whatever) is working well or not. Or if you’re seeing improvement over time in general. And yes, in a group setting, it is important information to be able to tell WHO is underperforming if the group is struggling on performance checks (or spending too long in a phase in general, even if there’s no hard-cut number’s check). Yes, even if that means someone is getting kicked for it.

If they do I’ll stop playing. I’m not playing without my non combat addons.

Yeah. Have to agree with most of the replies. They provide such a good QoL and some just have niches that people like over similar add-ons. I don’t think Blizz wants to go that far down that path. Combat I get though.

No. They understand that the ability to customise to individual preferences by using addons is a big selling point for the game. It also helps them keep the game from getting too bloated by trying to duplicate all the features addons can add.

FWIW, I’d definitely still play. I’d be annoyed for a bit, but nothing I use is so game-changing that it’d make me stop playing.

OSRS on the other hand… Yeah, not touching that without Runelite. That client made it worth playing in the modern day.

No, because addons save Blizzard a lot of work and gives them ideas to add new things. Remember a few years ago Blizzard gave the person who designed DBM a brand new PC just so they would keep updating it.

No

Yes

What’s annoying is they could have just made their own native features and left the 3rd party ones alone. There’s no reason to break Details just because you’re adding your own damage meter.

They’re not breaking details because they’re adding their own, details is collateral damage for getting rid of calc addons

I sincerely hope not

Ya, because the guy filed for bankruptcy.
He sold his PC to pay bills, made a post asking for donations, becuase he couldnt afford to live anymore.

It was more of a thank you for years of unpaid help during one of the darkest times of thier lives.
