WOW Addons

hey all i got a question in regards to wow “addon” Tos…is it against tos to require an addon (as long as it is free) to make a raid/m+ or anything in game easier for group content

Of course it’s not DBM makes mythics and raids a thousand times easier displaying audio cues and affix timers and interruption reminders for each specific mobs

All addons should be banned.

Yes and no.

Addons are just there to express information the game already has in an easier to see way. Thats literally ALL addons do. Or they change simple UI things. If you think they should be banned simply cuz they make it easier to see in game information, or just changing the UI, you are a fool or a troll.

If it does automation, then its against TOS. Technically, DBM could fall under that umbrella, but Blizzard has allowed it because it only automates personal markings.

What do you mean? Can a guild kick you for not running a boss mod, or something? I’m pretty sure that’s fine. Otherwise, addons aren’t required to do anything…they just make certain tasks/mechanics much less annoying to deal with.

Words of someone that wants WoW to die.

All people with characters named Beki should be banned. For equally valid reasons.

It’s like the flying argument all over again…

If YOU don’t like addons, don’t use them.

Is this an elitism thing? Like, “I’m so good I don’t need them”?

For me, addons are a great QOL improvement. I’ve seen many adopted by Blizzard over the years.

Addons are “not required”, however, they are a very useful tool to assist in self improvement, visuals, notifications ect.

Deadly Boss Mods (DBM) for Raid and Mythic+ encounters.

  • Highly encouraged to use that addon if you plan to participate in Raids or M+. Mostly a “plug and play” addon with notifications that alert you when danger is coming you way, what spells are being casted, when to run away from attacks ect ect, the list goes on

Details! addon

  • Visual addon for damage done, healing done, DPS, ect ect. Very useful tool for awareness where your M+ group or Raid stands as far as damage output ect. Also, a very great addon for self improvement.

World Quest Tracker:

  • Self explanatory.

CopyPasta2 addon:

  • You can copy + paste waypoints within this addon while locating specific points in the world with “waypoint” pins

TomTom:

  • Nice navigational tool to assist you where you need to go with a decent sizeable arrow. Also includes waypoint tracking and deletion on demand.

Plater Nameplates:

  • Don’t like the original WoW name plate settings? This addon will allow you to fully customize how you want to visually view you nameplates. Customizable nameplates for friend, foe and neutral targets and fully customizable colors which you can set to your needs.

Additionally, there are plenty of YT videos on how to set up your addons weather you’re a beginner, casual or experienced WoW player. I highly recommend Quazii WoW YT channel for just about every addon tutorial. Very informative videos with step by step instructions. Enjoy!

Depends on what you mean by “easier”; Deadly Boss Mods, LittleWigs, and WeakAuras all already exist…

No, that is not against the EULA. Guilds and groups have had requirements since Vanilla and that is perfectly legitimate. A guild or group can decide who they want to play with for any reason, or no reason. They don’t like your transmog? OUT!

We used to list the raid requirements in the Guild Application form. Failure to adhere to those meant not having a raid team spot.

Common ones even in Vanilla:

  • Stable Broadband internet connection
  • Stable computer able to handle raid spell graphics and movement
  • Level X character of Class Y, with Z Achievements
  • List of addons required to raid. Usually a threat meter, boss notification mod, and some sort of logging tool.

A group could literally decide that ONLY gnomes with an RP addon can join that raid and that is not against the rules.

Nobody has to play with someone else ever. For any reason. This is also why we have kick for groups so the majority can remove someone for any reason they please.

I love these threads where the OP asks a question and then never returns to clarify or otherwise interact with the thread at all.

Personally speaking… all people saying other people should be banned because they have different opinions on a forum, should be banned. Imao :joy:

And just like the Flying issue, it’s not enough that they not use it. They don’t want YOU to have/use it either.

There’s alot of that sentiment going around these days.

So you’re advocating for someone with a different opinion than you to be banned?

Hypocrite

Addons are a response to bad Blizzard design, Blizzard isn’t going to go and rewrite 20 years of game in order to ban addons.
