WoW 2.0 Finally Released (Dx12)

I don’t have many “good things” to say about Blizzard these days.

sorry, let me correct that:
I don’t have many “good things” to say about Activision these days.

However the new change to Dx12 multi-threading is by far the best thing (other than Artifact weapons, but you decided to do away with that…) you have done to WoW. I wish it was not this late, subs are down, content is a flop, but I can say it has been a huge boost of performance.

If you have not enabled DirectX 12 in WoW, what are you waiting for?! Can finally turn up View Distance without a huge overhead of performance loss and areas prior to FPS drops are now golden lovely places to visit in the game once again.

And thankfully…you don’t need a phone to enjoy this new feature

Edit: forgot to mention this was placed in the 8.1 patch where multi-threading was added to Dx12

Waiting for a pc running Windows 10. I’ve been told it’s not possible for older versions to run this DirectX version right?
Glad to hear it’s making a big impact on many though.

I’ll eventually upgrade, but just really see no reason to. I hate when operating systems make big gui changes seemingly just for the sake of doing so.

Correct you must have:

Windows 10
Graphics card that supports Dx12

I found out my old laptop’s graphics card can’t use DX12. It’s an Intel HD integrated card so no surprise there. It still can run the game great when I’m the road though: it’s a quad core with 8 gig of ram. I’ll bet if I slapped an external SSD drive and migrated my game there, the game would run a lot better.

It’s not so bad when you get used to it. I sure hated it at first though.

Artifact weapons, DX12 multi-threading, glorious things!

Now all we need is a level squish and an alternative way to progress our characters each expansion cause I don’t’ really favor the idea of getting to level 150 on all my alts in 2024.

100% there. I’m sick of the level increase, there’s literally no reason for it, there wasn’t after 60. Content driven mechanics with good story and player involvement is where blizzard took a wrong turn and has yet to return.

It’s nice seeing Dx12 things like this, only wish such things could come in the form of the games content :frowning:

So long as you upgrade your OS before January 10, 2023 and not running Windows XP at all, you’re alright to hold off for quite a long time still.

Nothing.

I’m never installing Windows 10. Load of bloated official spyware.

I have a DX12 video card and I play the game in DX12 mode, but some graphic effects that should be easily handled by my video card cause my FPS to drop.

Probably because WoW is very CPU intensive as opposed to GPU. Which the 8.1 changes were supposed to help WoW utilize more cores as i recall.

@ Melithiria AFter 2020, Windows 7 dies

not much support but what you’re saying is the same thing everyone said with Windows 98/XP/Vista/7… it’s a backlash at change

Win10 is much better today than ever before and there are ways to clean it up just as we all did with Win7

ALSO: If you’re running Windows 10 use the following (it’s free)
SpyBot Anti-Beacon

I spent over a month working out a batch file for services, registry entries, group policy and other security configuration to completely gut windows 10, fully disable telemetry, automatic updates, and cortana, and reduce the running processes to such a minimum there is actually LESS going on than in windows 10.

Now I am satisfied with the operating system. Assuming you have the Pro version.

Hell yeah man. It didn’t take THAT much editting for me to get happy with my edition of pro but it took quite a bit of it.
