WoW’s biggest issue

Retail WoW is centered around the max level experience and makes most of its money off of existing players. This and the current lightning fast 1-80 leveling speed is amazing for experienced veterans wanting another alt, but it is extremely bad for new players for two reasons:

1.)
The game has become so complicated with all the spells, binds, macros, addons needed for QoL, professions; it’s a tremendous volume of information to learn in a couple of hours and would overwhelm just about any player new to the franchise.

2.)
When you’re moving at breakneck speed as a new player you hit max level with only bits a fragmented and disjoint pieces of just wtf is actually going on. When you’re thrust into TWW you have no idea why you are there, who’s Xal, what’s Dalaran, or why you should care. When you add plot confusion to the layers of (reason 1.) confusion you find yourself hopelessly overwhelmed and lost with nothing to compel you to stick around and figure it out.

I see four possible solutions:

1.)
metered experience gains based on achievement points or time /played or some other relevant metric.

2.)
Perhaps an experience slider where one end takes around a month to go 1-80 and the other end is current system.

3.)
A proprietary AI tutorial that offers hands on tips and advice throughout the leveling process and can be asked questions.
Example “what is going on right now with the story” / “what is my optimal damage rotation” / “where do you recommend I put this new talent point” / “what should I do now?”

4.)
Offer meaningful rewards to veterans players, in the form of titles or pets or cosmetics, for acting as Sherpa for new players.

The game has its faults, but all in all is great for existing players. We wouldn’t still be here decades later if that wasn’t to some degree a fact.
No matter how great for veterans your game is though, without proper accommodations made for fresh blood, the game will eventually peter out. Veterans move on or retire or die.

IMHO Wow’s biggest issue is it’s lack of fan-service

When do we get a beach fun volleyball quest with Jaina and the Windrunner sisters? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I know if I were to start playing an MMO or any game really…and you told me it was going to take 30 actual days of playtime to get to the “end game”…I would walk right out the door.

Heck no.

And I can’t imagine how much content would be required to keep the game fresh that long without becoming incredibly tedious.

I think you missed the “slider” part in that sentence.
Month too long, but 6 hours too short to learn a class? Put the slider in the middle…

It’s tedious because you’ve already done it.
To someone learning the game and the story with a completely fresh set of eyes, it could feel immersive and engaging

I think you have a point Lux!
Also, we stole meta 8 years ago and I can’t wait to relive it in remix

It was actually a combination of both suggestions…

Since suggestion 1 was to limit xp gains based on time played and achievements, I just assumed that would result in the same horribly long grind that you mentioned in suggestion 2.

I guess it’s a matter of opinion, but WoW leveling has never felt immersive or engaging. It’s just something you have to do to get to the good stuff.

It’s gotten less so as the stakes of each expansion are ever raised, but vanilla experience was pretty amazing as slow as it was (if you read quests).
Going from an unknown nobody adventurer to a hero was epic.
A lot of that magic has been lost to time though.

I think using AI to voice over quest text would help bring a lot back. Especially when most too impatient to read and just want to keep the ball rolling

How dare you sir

Wows biggest issue is allowing people like you to make forum posts. -_-

How cool would it be if Demo got meta back and it turned you into a DH for 30 seconds with meta popped? :joy:

People have been saying WoW is going to die every year for 20 years.

Wake me up when it actually happens.

“Possession”
Warlocks tenuous grasp of control slips and they’re possessed by a X for 30 seconds before they regain concentration, and wrench back their soul.

I have been playing since the beginning, I have no idea what im exchanging and why im exchanging it. At this time, I just click on stuff till its red. Tired of getting the same gear. I stopped raiding, if you just wait til the last 2 weeks you can max out in less than 30 minutes. I gave up on gearing a long time ago and just quest, fish, and gather for the most of my time on WOW

No one needs to use binds and macros. You can even survive mythic without macros.

Most players learn the game while studying resources like icyveins after hitting max. There is no need to perfect a rotation while leveling. Spending a month leveling adds nothing to learning that can’t be figured out with 6 hours of practice after hitting max.

I guess you’re right and I was wrong!
Wow is a rather easy and intuitive game.
As a fresh player, on a fresh 80, you gain all the skills and knowledge you need to know to have a pleasant experience and be confident, without needing to spend hours outside the game studying external resources, by the 1-80 grind alone.
Addons are completely optional, even at the highest levels of difficulty

I’ll see if I can take down this post as it is irrelevant and the current systems are working flawlessly without room for improvements

You have some great points. I just like the qol improvements myself.
