Hey, I have a cool addon idea, and so far, every player I’ve shared it with seems to love it.
Unfortunately, I lack the necessary programming skills to create it myself, so I wanted to ask if you know where I could propose such an idea.
Here’s the addon idea:
“Group Up Together” (Project Name)
Other names I’ve considered:
- “Community of Warcraft”
- “Lonely Completionist”
- “Road to 100%”
The addon revolves around regular events. It will notify you if the event is worth participating in for your character or not.
The events can vary greatly, such as:
- “Try to get ‘Invincible’ - ICC25 HC”
- “Start a random battleground”
- “Make progress on the achievement ‘For the Horde!’”
- “Kill bosses in the current raid ‘Palace of the Nerub’ar’ on normal mode”
- “Complete quest XY”
- “Run Zul’Farrak for gold farming”
- “Obtain the item ‘Sizzling Ember Pollen’”
Essentially, anything is possible: achievements, obtaining items, visiting raids, or completing quests.
It’s somewhat like the /att random
function in the addon All The Things, which suggests what you can farm next if you’re bored.
The difference between All The Things and this addon is as follows:
a) ATT is personal and only includes things you haven’t collected yet.
b) GUT (project name) is NOT personal, can repeat events even if they’ve already been completed, and includes gold runs.
What makes GUT (project name) unique?
Group Up Together is designed to provide regular events for all players. Everyone will receive the same event at the same time.
- Events occur every 3–4 hours and remain active for 2 hours. Progress is tracked during that time.
- Each event will have a leaderboard comparing the progress of all participating characters in real time.
For example:
If Olaf, Baellog, and Erik participate in the next event, e.g., a gold run in the Uldaman dungeon, they’ll see a live leaderboard showing who has collected the most gold so far.
If they participate in the event “For the Horde!” instead, progress will track how many Alliance leaders each has killed within those two hours. Even if someone already has the achievement, their progress will still count.
Players will be notified whether the event is worthwhile for them. An exclamation mark could indicate: “You already have this quest, achievement, or item!”
Optional Feature:
As an optional feature, GUT (project name) could award GUT points to the top-performing players in events and publish another leaderboard where players can compare their GUT points.
Further comparisons, such as achievements, mounts, pets, etc., are also conceivable.
Why GUT (project name)? What makes it so special?
With this addon, “World of Solocraft” would feel more alive again—especially knowing, “Hundreds of other players are doing this right now, too.”
The competitive aspect adds to the fun factor and motivates players to join events, even if they don’t gain much from it themselves.
Finally, the addon provides a fun and entertaining way to make account progress while meeting new people who share the same goals as you.
In summary, the addon offers:
- Nostalgia
- Friendship
- Fun
- Account progress
- Multiplayer experience
- Competition
- Community
Which addons could GUT (project name) collaborate with?
A partnership with All The Things could be helpful. For the gold run leaderboard, LootAppraiser would be a great tool to calculate the gold value of acquired items.
