Not trying to make any demands or start arguments here but genuinely wondering, if Blizzard were to bring this weapon back to retail whether it be the original or some sort of updated model of it - would you be in favor of it or upset by it?
A friend and I were discussing removed items not too long ago and the disco staff got brought up which made me start thinking about it, as far as I understand they only removed it due to the zone revamps in Cataclysm and some of the mobs/enemies needed for the quest got removed with the revamp so they just decided to scrap the quest, along with many other quests, class specific quests and the hunter bow/staff as well.
It wasn’t initially a limited time item right? It just got chucked out of the window because they changed the zones and I guess didn’t want to update it to match the new zone enemies? I admit I’m not 100% sure on why this one got removed so I could be wrong.
I’m not sure myself on whether I’d support them just bringing back the OG model/quest but I think I’d be okay if they brought out an updated model and another challenging version of the quest so those with the original staff could get an upgraded version and those who didn’t play vanilla-WotLK could take a swing at getting it in retail.
Somewhat surprised they didn’t do that with the Legion artifacts, especially since Marksmanship Hunters got at least a little nod to Rhok’delar with the mage tower skin, although I suppose with Shadow having a dagger as the artifact I see why they may have not wanted/been able to bring back Bene/Ana in that way.
Just wanted to see some more thoughts on this, not trying to demand that they bring it back or hand it out for free with every subscription, plus I get interested when FOMO discussions pop up.
That staff looks like quest green for current WOW, people only want them because they’re exclusive, once you bring them back and give it to everyone, no one will use/mog it anymore.
Why can’t we be responsible with our money OR TIME in this case instead of blaming a marketing tactic that literally every single company uses on the face of the planet
honestly? Usually I don’t care. But Bene and Anathema is a clear example of wanting it just because it’s exclusive so no. They aren’t cosmetics that anyone would really use.
The only priest that uses anathema in my stable is my bank alt. They look terrible with current mogs and the only reason anyone would use them is because they’re so rare now. Take that rarity away and you’ve got nothing. A few of my hunters use the rhok mog though, not going to lie, that stood the test of time far better than the priest staff did.
I’m in favour of not removing anything from the game like this, but it would be a can of worms for Blizzard to put back in at this point with no upside for them. The weapons would have to be upgraded to modern graphics, and quests and locations would need to be revamped. Every expansion they’d probably have to retool the quests or else fully instance/phase them and lock them somehow timewalking style so they can’t be brute forced. It’s probably so much work Blizzard would prefer to move on with the new shiny stuff. If people want to experience those quests don’t they still exist in classic?
Then there would be the obligatory avalanche of GD complaints from other classes wanting their own quests added seeing as how these two are new, even if they do mirror the originals…
Yes because the staffs in past wow are terrible designs and dated relics. No loss here, you would barely see anyone using Anathema vs a new raid staff with glowy orbs.
Only if it was given a modern remake of both quest and model.
The problem I have with these “bringing it back!” requests is that these items are so… old. They have 2 polygons and smudged textures. Sure, they’re cool because of the history but I would never want to use it when a questing green looks so much more polished.
Please. Especially nowadays where we can play many of the classes at the same time and progress them (via N+), more fun class solo challenges could be a lot of fun.
