Feels like the game just simplified it all so much, as we are all 2nd graders, altho I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of the playerbase are all in their 20s+
Remember how easily it was to see what gear was what? Tank - Defense rating / Dodge / Parry / Block Healer - Had Spirit stat (Cloth/Leather) on it (Unless you were a Fire mage who had Spirit synergy) and Paladin/Shaman’s head MP5 stat. PvP had resilience, that was utterly useless in PvE and PvP gear was actually bad for PVE, as resilience took a stat slot, and if you were a PvE’er who wanted to PvP, you’d be a glass cannon due to the lack of pvp-specific stat.
Those were the days.
Now it’s whwat
Mastery
Versa
Haste
Crit.
If it means the reintroduction of Arcane Reforging, i’m fine with that. I do think the stats are a little too simplified. Though on the other, i’m not a fan of the “hit” stat, so i think a comprise should be striked up here.
Haste is my most hated stat. I wish they just designed specs to work properly without it instead of them feeling like trash for 2/3 of an expansion untill our secondaries are able to reach good levels.
Aren’t people saying, “that’s so dull imho” about stats as is?
Of COURSE resilience was useless in PVE, why would a PVP stat give benefit to a PVE situation?
The stats were simplified to streamline things. Less stats also meant less in the way of balancing since some classes might benefit more or less on certain stats over others.
It’s bland in its current set-up. End of discussion.
We still have dodge/parry/block, they’re just tied to other things (and generally means that stupid dps obsessed tanks are [almost] never entirely gimping their survivability when they prioritize dps, which is good).
In general, the old way of Tanks stacking stats to CTC cap or whatever then nothing really mattering was stupid as hell. Let’s not go back to that.
I think Spirit was neat. Bring it back, sure. MP5 AND Spirit is redundant though. Don’t do both. Spirit vs Int needs to be balanced better though. It definitely came to a point where Int just outperformed Spirit even in the thing Spirit was supposed to do, because healing for more meant less casts meant less mana spent which was better than recovering a lesser amount of mana for the same stat value.
PvP Stats are dumb. Bring back the WoD dual ilvl system. It worked the best.
The hit/expertise caps were really the big issue with the old stats, getting 1 piece and then having to go through some site to figure out what’s the optimal things to reforge to get your exact caps was absolutely not fun.
I’d love to be able to have a regen build, though would hope there’d be some better balancing of regen gained from spirit vs the throughout gained from raw int.
I dunno, old system was pretty simple. Also, turns out we were doing it wrong too.
Hit/exp - get this number or suck
ARP - stack this and melt
Defense - use a script to figure out defensive caps. Turns out a lot of defensive stats were a waste of time in early wow.
Mp5/spirit - too good or too bad. I knew a lot of people who freaked out about mana so went full regen. Their numbers probably sucked.
Just because we had more stats doesn’t mean they were good or exciting. Often they were noob traps or boring requirements.
What they COULD do is create more synergies with crit, haste and mastery. Some classes are more fun than others because of the interplay between secondaries. Then there are classes that have a boring mastery (flat damage). Classes boring without haste. Classes where vers is #1 (likely no interesting interplay)
Stats were never complicated or interesting, they were merely convoluted. There was nothing fun or interesting about having to gear around Hit and Expertise caps, for example.
“Oh look, a new wea—oh wait, changing will drop me below the hit cap so it’s currently useless.”
And even when Reforging was eventually added to help make less ideal items suck a little less, there was still no real thought behind gearing. You would just read a spreadsheet or plug your gear into something and just forge your gear how it said.
What we need is better synergy with existing stats and classes/specs instead of trying to go back to a time where we were saddled with a bunch of stats that got removed for a reason. It would be nice to have Reforging back though.
