Personally, I think I only benefited from 1 or 2 maps before my gear was completely replaced by mythic +7 heroic track items. However, I understand others like delves and see it as an alternative to having to engage with mythic +.
My suggestion is that the devs implement a sort of ramp up system like weekly talents or % bonuses to spend currency on including things like increased map drops.
This would insure that maps early in a season are rare but later on as the player base has more access to +7 keystones the drops rates of maps in delves also increase alongside them.
This would be my personal suggestion to the devs that would allow for most people to feel happy about delve progression.

delves are just a lil toy for the first weeks of the xpack to me.

why would you want to get rid of maps?

I have only ever received 3 maps in the entire time I have been doing delves. So, it wouldn’t change much. Delves are awful and we only run them for the free 616 vault loot.
Getting a duplicate and dealing with RNG droprate is already slap in the face lol.

They have effectively removed maps for me. I haven’t seen one drop in the handfuls of delves I have run this last week.
Maps are a nice bonus, or at least they were. I think you’re assuming with this question the motivations of delvers is getting max gear. It’s just to play and enjoy content for me. I don’t need the best of the best of the max gear and if I want it I am okay going to other tracks to get it.
So have you considered delvers might not be in it for the reasons you assume?
The enchanting profession is definitely a blessing for delvers imo.

Before I took up enchanting I was getting hit with disenchants like crazy, just realized it would be logical of me to invest in the profession. 
There is no need to remove maps. I would say I seen 1 ever 12 8+'s. Some weeks I rand 24 8’s and might have not seen no maps. This is nothing but envy at this point.
This…feels fine honestly! Ive gotten two maps ever, and one wasnt an upgrade. I dont think itd stop the m+ folks from complaining, but the old focu crying about the new focus is a proud tradition
