Option 1) A sequel to WoW with a brand new engine and a hefty time skip so that we can start off with a clean slate. However, the lore from the first game will not be retconned and will be carried over and possibly affect the story of WoW 2. For example Azeroth will still be a titan, the void lords will still exist, etc.
OR
Option 2) An actual clean slate where blizzard completely reboots the whole damn franchise with a new engine and starts off again in the aftermath of Warcraft 3 like vanilla WoW did. All the lore we have thus far will be retconned and be made again from the ground up.
Which of the two would you prefer?

Any to be honest , hard reset of some kind is way over due imo.

I hope WoW lasts a long time and doesn’t need a sequel or reboot.
But if I have to pick between those two choices, I would say a sequel to continue the story that’s already been established.

Either, as long as the current dev team has nothing to do with the new project.

This would be my vote…the story is way better before they ran out of material from the warcraft games.
Although, my honest opinion is they should keep retail WoW going until it stops making profit. If they were going to make a second MMO they should move to another IP. Diablo could be fun with lots of lore.

WoW 2 with a more modern look and combat system.

Neither. I am taking option 3, in 13 days the sub runs out and am clearing this piece of crap off of my machine for good.

Well I don’t want to lose all my characters.

I’d be for a sequel, however on a different planet within the universe as I highly doubt us savages on this lone planet is enough to topple a universal power.
The problem with the Diablo Universe as an mmorpg is that the world is DYING. It’s what is referred to as a crapsack world. Questing, especially non-serious types of quests, would be extremely difficult to pull off without feeling out of place.
1 as long as I don’t lose all my characters, mog etc. Mogs are important, so are my worgen

Neither. Classic wow sucked compared to the QOL improvements they have made. Anyways classic is coming this summer. As for a wow2, I’d be more inclined to entertain, however I think this story has some more to it. I’m not ready to abandon it right now.
I would prefer that Blizzard become better at releasing consistent content that is better than one on and one off, also be able to Communicate through the blues more than a superficial response or nothing at all. I would like to see them making games for the people rather than just for profit alone and hire better people that are more able to create rich engaging story lines and content.

I don’t think either is a particularly good idea. I think the genre is largely dying and any attempt to reboot or anything like that would ultimately fail.

None of those, i find both to be pretty bad options.

I dont think its dying
I think that really good mmorpg just aren’t made
as much as we all complain about slow leveling curves, exp loss on death, item retrieval on death , everyday world encounters that force teamwork because that blue con orc is like a raid boss, etc…
those things are what’s missing nowadays and those things keep players engaged.
I’d vote for wow2 with true mmorpg mechanics like listed above.
other than that I cant wait for pantheon and daoc unlimited

You did not mention either of them porting over our current character data/levels/mounts/pet/mog collections.
That would be what did it for me.
They will never make a Wow 2, though. If this eventually fails, it is it. MMORPGS are kind of over. I’m very surprised some new ones are coming out, it will be interesting to see how they fare.
Sequel, reboots are just if you want to retcon something.

I agree , id say the genre is stale due to mass cloning of the same ideas for the past 10-12 years. WoW would have an edge with new mmorpg as it’s great IP that many like.

It would have the best potential but it is heavily dependent on what blizzard introduced.
