Would you play wow without addons

My desire to play the game would drop significantly. Huge part of the fun is tweaking and customizing your UI to perfection, and using UI to catch things that you otherwise would miss.

Major part of WOW’s charm.

I told you so

I wouldn’t play WoW if Blizz disabled addons. There’s Classic for those who want the raw version of WoW.

I know that Blizzard is scrambling to prolong game-play for subscriptions but taking the fun and quality of life improvements out of the game will discourage many players from playing their mains, let alone their alts.

When players feel more hopeful and optimistic about receiving rewards and being rewarded for their time and effort, they’re more likely to do so. On the other hand, if the game is long and winding, it makes players give up on levelling and gearing their mains, as well as their alts.

The thing with alts is they keep people playing because alts offer a refreshing change from the monotony of their mains. Long grinds, heavy gating, and complicated terrain might look good on paper in those board meeting at Blizzard HQ but they’re counterintuitive.

When things are within reach (and I don’t mean the grind-y approach to rewards but actually within reach), players are more likely to want to try them out on alts.

It’s like when companies reduce the price of chocolates at a store, to make people buy more. When I see a chocolate bar for $3, I may or may not buy the chocolate bar…but when I see that chocolate bar reduced to $2, I’m more likely to buy 2 or more chocolate bars because “Hey! I get a discount!”.

So, because the chocolate in this case was easier and cheaper to buy than the normal cost, the customer ends up spending at least $4 or more instead of the original $3.

The same concept rings true with alts and even mains when you make things feel more rewarding, and not artifact power / azerite kind of rewarding but actually rewarding. It makes players want to play more than they perhaps normally would because the reward centers in their brain are firing.

Just food for thought.

We actually played with a lot of addons back in the day during the actual classic time period. I know I had a whole host of them at one point that added side bar button options, before that was a part of the normal UI, and was running damage meters in Molten Core right after it came out.

It was more raw, I’ll give you that. But it wasn’t an addon free experience by any means.

Why would anyone want to disable coordinates?

I remember first playing this game for almost two expansions before I realized what addons actually were. I didn’t have any friends that really played the game so at first I was very cautious not knowing what they actually were but now, I don’t think I could ever see myself playing without them; they just add too many qualities of life and not having some of them can put a player at a disadvantage when it comes to things like coordinates or rares.

I play without coordinates right now - i took a long break from wow and haven’t redownloaded many addons - and I gotta say the games ui is absolutely archaic without addons.

Pretty sure coordinates isn’t even based on an addon either i’m just too lazy to do anything and it’s making the game very inconvenient.

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: you can have my addons when you pry them from my cold, dead hooves.

To sum up my mess of a post above…

People are more likely to go after something when it feels rewarding and less likely to do it when it feels punishing.

All I can say is you don’t want to be grouped with my healer if I don’t have my add-ons.

Addons destroyed the wow experience, true pros play without addons :).

Addons have been part of the true WoW experience since the start of classic. There’s never been a WoW without it.

There are more addons than just damage meters. People who dislike addons always focus on that and dbm.

I have addons that replace my unit frames, cast bars, bags, mini map, chat window, buffs, timers and more.

The default UI is antiquated and missing lots of basic functionality and blizzard has not really done much with it over the years because modders do the work for them.

I’ve been using addons since vanilla and would not play without them.

I don’t think it would really change anything for me other than the fact I can’t see if I’m performing properly.

You can take my TMW and Tidyplates from my cold, dead hands.

I don’t pvp, tidyplates mostly helps determining aggro spillage. As a tank, I can already tell someone else grabbed aggro with the default raid profiles, but tidy plates just makes that easy peasy.

Also, I’m waiting for auctioneer to get updated.
