I’m in the market for something I can play on while I’m away from home. Doesn’t need to be anything fancy or capable of running on max settings. But this laptop is one of the few ones I’ve found that has a designated graphics card.

Id bump the ram up, but Asus is a good brand, as is nvidia geforce. And an i7 core. From that it looks ok

It looks like a decent machine for what you’re looking for. I’d personally prefer more RAM but that’s just me; it’s one of the few things that’s not a giant pain to replace so you can always upgrade later if you want.

As a note of caution, ROG laptops seem to have some more motherboard issues than other brands. It’s not a guaranteed thing but just something to keep in mind.

Thanks, guys. I’d like to stick to both Bestbuy and something I can pick up in store, since I’m part of the rewards program and can shave some of the cost down. Plus I like being able to see it in person.

Computers sadly all play by one rule.

You get what you pay for.

Expect to shell out more cash for better current kit. There’s a 1,399.99 one that’s somewhat decent, but the next one up at 1,699.99 it’s just better, albeit both are at 17.3" monitor diagonal.

Food for thought.

Use an external mouse when playing WoW on a laptop.
Playing with the touchpad is extremely painful.

Yes, I have an older one that is similar. ROG Laptops are good, but remember they are Mobile desktops, they do heat up more than the thin little laptops most people have, and they weigh a ton, you’ll need a very large and sturdy Backpack for it. But the ability to play WOW at starbucks is worth it.

Also so it lives a long life be sure to keep the vents clean and clear at all times.

Looks great, I’d maybe add another 8gb of ram.

Good luck

I find laptops to be the worst feel, for gaming, as well as the issue of them being “closed systems” you can’t upgrade (usually.)

They are also tremendously overpriced, for what you get.
So I’d not be playing on them anyway.

Computer cases and monitors get lighter and lighter, though I guess you’d look silly lugging that around

I don’t think I could play on a 15" screen.

Oh!

Newegg.

There’s no real other option.

Newegg.-com - Or a competitor.

Custom build your rig, and make a tower; laptops suck and are great paperweights.

Don’t think that’s an option for OP.

Fair.

/10 … why?

If I had no alternative looks like that laptop would be alright, though if I had a choice, any laptop would be my last choice

I have a really solid rig. 8 years old and it still plays just fine on the highest settings, I just want something more mobile for these trips I take once a month.

I’m in the same boat in that my house has two bedrooms and none of the common areas are really conducive to a big, flashy gaming rig as a piece of furniture, so its been a laptop for me for the last…going on four years now.

As to your laptop…I’d replace the RAM but that’s about it. If you play a lot of games, maybe a bigger SSD (the Helios model I bought last month came with a 256GB SSD and I’m adding a 2TB SSD in one of the additional slots tomorrow) may be in order. If all you play is WoW, that thing will crush it.

The 17.3" at 1,399.99 with 16 GB and the 1660 NVIDIA card is more expensive, the RAM is often one of the most difficult to pay for parts of a computer. The sad part is, they both can and will force you to pay through the nose for RAM, as its a premium part.

WoW and Diablo are about the only games I play. It may be overkill for those, but like I mentioned, it’s one of the few that has a designated graphics card. Is a cooling pad something that would help the heat issues, or those a gimmick?

Get a good one and it shouldn’t be an issue.

The problem you need to address with the laptop you linked is that low RAM count.

I use a $17 cooling pad with mine. Keeps my lap from turning into a swamp and I’m pleased with it for that alone. Its fairly quiet too.
