Would you play a WoW turn based game?

I rather enjoy grid style, turn based games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Xcom, Dofus or my two favorites right now Wakfu and Alchemists Code. But it can also be line up style, turn based like FF7.

So I was wondering if any of you would play a turn based WoW game? We are talking either grid style, turn based like FF Tactics where you can position your characters or FF7 turn based style where you line up and fight the mobs head on.

EDITED: To clarify which turn based type I was talkg about.

I wouldn’t because I don’t like turn-based games (at least not the ones you mentioned) . I don’t think that matters though as a lot of other people do.

I don’t like turn based games, but if it was made in cooperation with Larian Studios? SIgn me the heck up!

I loathe turn based games with every fiber of my soul, so no. Hard pass.

I started with the RTS games, I would play the hell out of a Warcraft-themed turn-based game along the lines of X-Com, or one of the good Heroes of Might and Magic.

One of my biggest dream games right now is Total War: Warcraft, and that’s turn based so yes, yes I would.

I wasn’t going to post until I saw all the outright hatred for turn-based games. I LOVE them!!!

It’s one thing to have twitch-based reactions, but it never feels even remotely as satisfying as comparing different strategies, different tactics, weighing strengths and weaknesses, going through ALLLLLLLLL of those things … and then making a decision.

You will inherently never get that kind of deep thought process in a RTS/FPS.

I have an old PC from like '98 that I keep just because it has Heroes of Might and Magic 3 on it. That’s how good that game is! lol If you ever have 5-6 days worth of time to burn, play an extra large map of HoMM3. It’s time well spent. :stuck_out_tongue:

I love turn based games, but it depends on how its done, which can be said for any game really. If it was done in a way I liked, then yes I probably would play it or at least try it out.

YES! I love turn-based games. I wish every RPG that is not turn-based has a turn-based version.

You’re not wrong, but there is no less degree of skill and satisfaction to be found in the ability to multitask while planning ahead and adjusting on the fly like Starcraft or other RTS, nor in the twitch reflexes and excellent aim involved in FPS, etc. these may all be different sorts of challenge, but they are not lesser.

X-Com EW is still amazing though.

After thinking more, you need to clarify what you mean by turned based. I didn’t care for FF Tactics or Wakfu, but I am a fan of all the old FF stuff (except what I mentioned) ChronoCross/Trigger etc… and they are turned based too I suppose.

These are the alternate genres I think would fit each Blizz property.

Warcraft: RPG, RTS or fighting game.

Starcraft: Stealth/action game, space shooter, RTS, turn-based X-com style game.

Overwatch: …Eh…Arena shooter?

Diablo: Action/RPG, survival-horror.

I was thinking more along the line of grid turn based but I guess Final Fantasy or Chrono Cross / Trigger would work. For the sake of this conversation I’ll take either or.

Ok then I change my answer… if they made something like that I would play the devil out of it.

Oh, while I like tactical RPG (at least FFT as that’s the only one I’ve ever played), I do mean more like regular Final Fantasy numbered games when I say turn-based.

But yeah, I enjoyed Final Fantasy Tactics and I would play a version of WoW that incorporates that gameplay. It’s fun.

But of course, a regular turn-based would be even more fun for me and I would play that too.

As long as it keeps the current style of combat system and it’s not a cheap JRPG weeb garbage clone #87235489273462.

The reason why I play WoW it’s basically because it’s unique in his kind, all the races have their own adaptations instead of just generic fantasy ripoff. The lore might no be the greatest thing this planet has ever seen but I really enjoy the Old God stuff.

Im sorry if I come across as rude but the market is so flooded with that stuff, wherever you look, there’s 25 exact same games but with just different names.

If it worked off of a FF7 or 8 style ATB bar? Yes, love it!
If it used the FFX style CTB system? Yes, love it!
Traditional turn based? No, can’t stand it.

I typically don’t get super into turn-based games, but Divinity 2 was/is an exception. That game is fantastic (even if I do find the overall story a bit too standard DnD style over the top adventure – but that can be fun sometimes too).

So if done well… sure? But I don’t see what a WoW version would bring to the table that isn’t done by Divinity or other games already. It certainly wouldn’t be the story pulling me in, given WoW’s track record, but if it’s kept generic enough I -do- enjoy this universe.

All of that said, I think Transistor is a much more accessible version of a “turn-based” RPG. Like many others, movement is totally free outside of combat, but unlike others, it remains free DURING combat but with the option to toggle its turn-based mode. It creates an interesting dynamic of alternating between Action RPG combat and Turn-Based Combat based on what makes the most sense for the current encounter.

Anyone who hasn’t played it should pick it up tbh. One playthrough on the standard difficulty took me like 5 or 6 hours, so not too long, but it’s also not too expensive of a game. Great music, too, and decent replayability via New Game+ or just trying out different skill builds.

I’d be down to see more RPGs designed in that fashion.
