Would you play a World of WarCraft 2 if

So I did mention this in a thread but I’m curious about it as it’s own topic.

Would you play a WoW 2 if it was a WoW 2 in function but not necessarily an entirely new game?

Given how the game is run these days imagine if the World Soul Saga ended with a major event that also ended the journeys of our current characters. The servers would stay up but there are no new expansions.

Instead, new expansions are released as part of a whole new story on their own fresh servers where everyone makes new characters. Nothing is moved over from before. This new story is what we play in for the next 10-20 years.

For the new story everyone starts from scratch as all new adventurers on a new Azeroth. Patch cadence, how PvP is handled etc would be new. Graphics and feel, however, would be the same. It’d be the same engine.

In many ways, a proper second game might make more sense (better graphics, no weird nonsense from the engine being so old, etc) but I wonder if this would be better for current players whose existing subs would simply let them access all versions including this new one.

This would mean having the following WoW versions:

-Classic Era
-Classic Progressive Servers
-What is currently retail but with no or very few future updates
-The new saga

A bit messy but Blizzard seems okay with this sort of system so it’s possible.

Personally I would not play a version of this game that made me start over constantly and didn’t allow me to carry over my many years of collecting.

Is this a trial balloon?

I do wonder if people legitimately think nullifying years of grind appearances for armor, weapons, and mounts is a good idea. Like seriously do you really think people go “Yeah, I’d love to lose my main I had for a decade or more and all my stuff I’ve collected behind!”

If you’re gonna make a WoW 2 pitch, at least find something that’s actually appealing.

Rather see a Star Craft MMO versus a WoW2.

I wouldn’t play anymore I’m not starting from lvl 1 every expansion.

I think people misunderstand you would NOT start from 1 every expansion. This would be a new story going forward 20 years and your new character will stay with you through that.

WoW is dated af I think most of the MMORPG is waiting for the third era of MMORPGs.
The second era of WoW clones literally all feel incredibly dated and are mostly kept afloat by sunk cost fallacy.

I took this to mean, every expansion is on a new fresh server so starting over each time.

If I was incorrect that’s ok, but I still would not give up all Iv worked for to start over even one time.

I’d try it out regardless. But I think it’s an interesting question.

I guess my biggest issue isn’t with not being able to play my main, it’s that I want to have some sort of closure, and to know what happens to him. He’s a Forsaken Warlock, how does his story end? Forsaken are cursed, so I never assumed it would be a happy ending… but, I still need to know.

After that, after I find out what happens and I can finally close the book that is WoW 1, then yeah, I’d gladly jump into a WoW 2.

If WoW 2 is just a visual overhaul, and not much else, then I wouldn’t see it as a WoW 2. If we can still play our current characters, then yeah, it’s just WoW.

Problem still persists. Who the hell would want to abandon old characters and collections just to start over? Let’s not forget that for like most of the races (and a few classes) 20 years means absolutely nothing.

Not what I meant but definitely what I said.

Uh.

I should edit that, thank you.

In this hypothetical scenario where I did continue playing, I’d just recreate my characters with all the same names. The only difference is I would have lost all my stuff.

They’d probably play differently. Might be different races too.

Nope. This is where you lost me.
